Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been observed that individuals habits and beliefs are changed in the adulthood compared to early age. I completely support this viewpoint. My inclination is explained further.

The foremost argument I would like to put forward to support my inclination is that people gain experience as they are getting older. In other words, at teenage people have less experience and most of their beliefs are drawn by others such as family members, relatives and friends. But when they step in to real world, they may see the world is completely different. Therefore, when they gain experience through their own life experience, they are more likely to sounds like leaving imaginary world behind. For example, children were told that others are kind and loyal. However, later on they find out the true reality of a society. Moreover, Influencing people enter in their life when they are getting mature. To explain, social connections in people's life increase as they begin corporate journey or pursue higher study. As a result, they would learn from the people who are samrter than themselves and also imitate them to achieve their level of critical thinking. Hence, they realise their mistakes and adopt rewarding habits. For example, many successful people express that they had developed reading habits suggested by their peers during college time. Likewise, many people accepted that give up on bad habits just to maintain good social relations at work.

In contrast, numerous people stick to their own beliefs and habits regardless of their growing age. To begin with, they were following family values and ancestral knowledge. These communities are stubborn and believe that they were told right things since their childhood. Therefore, they resist others arguments on certain topics like religion, diet and other related practises. For example, many group of people have been ingesting a wrong diet and continue to follow it even after it is scientifically proven to be harmful in long term.

In conclusion, although some people are not flexible to accept new ideas and continue their old non beneficial habits, many people are being mindful in terms of change of vision and adopt new habits for better future outcomes. In order to break the stereotypical thinking and habits, people must be resilient and always look up to seek the truth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in the introduction and maintaining it throughout. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the discussion on how professional environments and social circles influence personal growth is a strong, logical point. While the counter-argument is included, it could have been more tightly integrated to strengthen the overall argument. The response is well-structured, and the examples provided, such as the influence of peers on reading habits, effectively support the main points. The conclusion reinforces the initial stance while acknowledging the complexity of the issue.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the main argument and the counter-argument is handled effectively using 'In contrast'. Cohesive devices such as 'In other words', 'Therefore', and 'Moreover' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. While the flow is generally smooth, there are minor instances where the connection between sentences could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey ideas with some precision. There is an attempt to use less common items like 'resilient', 'stereotypical', and 'ancestral knowledge'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sounds like leaving imaginary world behind' and 'Influencing people enter in their life'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more natural phrasing. The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the consistent flexibility and sophisticated control required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'individuals habits' (missing possessive), 'at teenage' (incorrect preposition), and 'they would learn from the people who are samrter' (spelling error). Additionally, some phrasing is awkward, such as 'many group of people have been ingesting a wrong diet'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions.
