Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that it is ordinary for individuals to change their habits and their opinions as they get older. I completely agree with the view, as changing habits and opinions can not only enhance their quality of life but also make their life comfortable.

One of the main reasons for individuals to alter their regular routine and beliefs as they age can boosts their overall lifestyles. This is largely because changing the way of living can have significant affect on physical health and mental well-being. For instance, in India, a large number of individuals gets adapted to modern technology at an early age to encourage social interaction and minimise the feeling of isolation when they get older. If a large number of individuals alter their daily habits and opinions, they are more likely to adapt to any circumstances. As a result, it is extremely crucial for individuals to change their perspectives and habits as they reach old age.

Another significant reason is that changing daily habits and opinions can lead to a comfortable life. This is mainly due to adapting to any situation at any time reduces unnecessary stress. To illustrate, in the USA, many multinational companies offers flexible schedule to their employees to maintain a healthier lifestyle. In this way, many working professionals are able to meet their daily goals which in turn leads to successful life. Although maintaining a work-life balance is not easy for several individuals, I believe being flexible is valuable for more relaxed lifestyles. Consequently, it is evident that change in individuals' habits and opinions is necessary for making a accomplished life.

In conclusion, even though it is prevalent for individuals to change both their daily routines and their beliefs as they get older, I firmly believe that such transformation is highly valuable for prosperous and overall quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding health and stress reduction are relevant and supported with examples. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the ideas could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. For instance, the example regarding multinational companies in the USA is slightly disconnected from the core argument about personal habits and opinions. While the position is clear, the supporting points lack a degree of sophistication in their logical progression, keeping this in the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'One of the main reasons', 'To illustrate', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the transition between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some referencing is slightly imprecise. For example, the phrase 'This is largely because' is used repeatedly, which limits the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the central topic of each paragraph is clear, ensuring the essay remains coherent throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'prevalent' and 'transformation', which are used correctly. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'make their life comfortable' (instead of 'make their lives more comfortable') and 'an accomplished life' (which is slightly unnatural in this context). The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues such as 'a large number of individuals gets adapted' (should be 'get adapted') and 'many multinational companies offers' (should be 'offer'). Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'have significant affect' (should be 'have a significant effect'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
