Student answer (Band 6.5)

Experience brings wisdom. It is a general opinion that individual evolve in terms of thinking and habits as they grow older. I'm in consummate accord with the apropos statement and to support my view on this I'll explain it in depth.

It is very common for people to grow with age, if we see this scientifically, our brain evolves with time and experience. With each new experience, your brain creates new circuits and provides you with different perspective of life. For instance a toddler's dream is to get ice-cream or candy, for a juvenile it is a toy and for an adult it would be a computer or an iphone. As we grow our perspective pertaining to things changes and our choices change accordingly. Choice is basically opinion for a thing or person.

Moreover, we have seen a basic habit in toddlers which is to suck thumb which mimics the breastfeeding, but eventually when they grow this habit fades away as they stop feeding on milk. Same with adults, generally they have this habit of wandering around with their friends and waste their time but when situation gets serious about their life and they become a person who is going to job that habit fades away.

Additionally, we can see a mammoth gap between thinking of an adult and a child. As child is in his learning stage, he is learning about world and how to think rationally, this being the reason, government made this mandatory legal age of 18 for making a vote, as they are not sensible enough to make rational decisions.

To agglomerate, a person thinking expands with every upcoming year and with that their views and their habits changes as per biology, and it is logical to say that there is vast difference between thoughts of a baby and a grown man.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the biological development of the brain and the shift in life priorities. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of habits fading is a bit simplistic, and the connection between voting age and rational decision-making is a good point but could have been expanded further to fully explore the 'why' behind changing opinions. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task well, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'Moreover', 'Additionally', and 'To agglomerate', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The referencing is generally clear, although the flow between sentences within paragraphs could be smoother. The concluding paragraph is a bit abrupt and uses the non-standard word 'agglomerate' to mean 'summarize', which slightly disrupts the coherence of the final thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. There is an attempt to use more sophisticated language, such as 'consummate accord', 'apropos', and 'mammoth gap'. However, some of these choices are slightly unnatural or misused in context, such as 'agglomerate' for 'summarize' or 'individual evolve' (should be 'individuals evolve'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, the lack of precision in word choice and occasional awkward collocations prevent it from reaching a higher band. The range is enough to discuss the topic but lacks consistent flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('individual evolve', 'habit... changes'), missing articles ('as child is', 'for a thing'), and awkward phrasing ('government made this mandatory legal age'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication. The student shows an attempt at complex structures, but the control over these is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles and pluralization, before attempting more complex sentence patterns.
