Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, bringing changes in one's habits and perspectives has become a question of heated debates. Some people think that it is extremely challenging to do so as they grow older, whereas others consider this tendency really realistic. In my opinion, it completely depends from person to person, therefore, I agree partially because of following reasons.
To commence with, it is indispensable to note that aging brings valuable experience of the life lived which assists people to give up some old habits while adopting new ones. For example, my grand father was a stereotype and he did not want the women to work outside rather than staying inside the four walls in order to take of family responsibilities. However, with the time, he realized that women must be financially independent so that they can also improve their standard of living while contributing to the country's economy.
On the other hand, one should not forget that some habits cannot be changed easily . For instance, a person, who is a smoker or who has been consuming alcohol since his adulthood, will not most likely be able to quit it. Similarly, people, who think that westernization is a threat to their culture, find it difficult to adopt a new culture which is essential to accept cultural differences and to become more tolerant. As a result, modifying opinions and habits is uncommon for everyone.
In conclusion, I would say that although some individuals can transform their opinions and their habits as the time passes, it seems a little irrealistic for every person.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding changing habits and opinions with age. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the grandfather's shift in perspective on gender roles and the difficulty of breaking addictions. However, the development of the second body paragraph is slightly less detailed than the first. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points are fully extended with more nuanced analysis, perhaps by exploring why some individuals are more resistant to change than others, rather than just listing examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'However', 'On the other hand', and 'As a result' to guide the reader through your argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated linking phrases that connect sentences more naturally, ensuring that the progression of ideas feels seamless rather than formulaic.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'indispensable to note', 'financially independent', and 'cultural differences' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'a question of heated debates' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'irrealistic' (which is not standard English; 'unrealistic' is the correct term). Additionally, 'my grand father was a stereotype' is an awkward phrasing; it would be better to say he held 'stereotypical views'. Expanding your range of less common lexical items would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several error-free sentences, and your meaning is consistently clear. However, there are some grammatical slips, such as 'depends from person to person' (should be 'depends on'), 'with the time' (should be 'over time'), and 'take of family responsibilities' (missing 'care'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and preposition usage to improve your accuracy.
