Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the contemporary society, many people widely argue that how to change both habits and perspectives when they get older and is it easy to change them,In the narrative, I will discuss about positive factors to reach a reasoned conclusion. I firmly believe that it is to change daily habits.

To begin with, numerous public are changing their habits, such as eating habits, sleeping habits and such more. When they were young, while they woke up late and took a nap late. However, they may change their schedule when they get older. Moreover, they would improve their physical activities and eat healthy foo and also away from junk food; therefore, they can maintain their health and enhance their routine.

Furthermore, if they avoid being lazy, they can do everything without trouble. One of the main reason is that they will be unable to do hard work and some work will not be suitable in old age. For example, if older people prefer swimming, they cannot do this because they would lose their strength so they have to change their choices with age. In addition, older men cannot wear fashionable clothes and fashion accessories because they become older so they cannot manage such a situation also, that would be uncomfortable for them. Some times they do not want to change their opinion, but they have to change it for some reasons.

To sum up, although changing habits have significant benefits for older, it can create several negative things for them. That is why people will be careful for changing their habits and opinions as they get older.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but lacks depth in its development. While you state a position, the arguments provided are somewhat disjointed and occasionally illogical, such as the claim that older people cannot wear fashionable clothes. The ideas regarding habit changes are mentioned but not fully explored or supported with convincing reasoning. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a clear, logical argument that directly supports your stance. The conclusion is also slightly contradictory, as it introduces 'negative things' that were not previously discussed in the body paragraphs. A more focused approach to the prompt's core question—why and how opinions and habits change—would lead to a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often unclear. While you use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'Furthermore', their usage is sometimes mechanical or does not accurately reflect the relationship between sentences. For example, the transition between discussing health habits and the claim about fashion choices is abrupt and lacks a logical link. Referencing is occasionally confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow your train of thought. To improve, focus on using transition words that logically connect your ideas and ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally basic and repetitive. You rely on simple phrases like 'change their habits' and 'get older' throughout the text. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'take a nap late' and 'eat healthy foo' (likely a typo for food). To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items and more precise collocations. For instance, instead of 'change their habits', you could use 'modify their lifestyle' or 'adapt their routines'. Proofreading for minor spelling errors would also help improve the overall quality of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'numerous public are changing'), awkward phrasing (e.g., 'how to change both habits and perspectives when they get older and is it easy to change them'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and ensuring that your complex sentences are grammatically sound before attempting more advanced structures.
