Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating an agreement with the idea that habits and opinions change with age. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example of the armed forces is relevant but lacks depth in explaining how the 'opinion regarding country safety' specifically changes, remaining a bit superficial. The second paragraph on health consciousness is better developed, but the overall argument could benefit from more nuanced exploration of why these changes occur beyond just professional growth or retirement. The response covers all parts of the task, but the supporting arguments are occasionally repetitive or lack sufficient detail to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First and foremost', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as the transition 'Therefore, people got change for the well being'. Additionally, there are instances where referencing is unclear, and the flow between sentences is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors. While the overall progression is logical, the lack of sophisticated linking and some awkward phrasing prevents a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'cautious', 'potential disease', and 'destress', which are appropriate. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'notions due to the fact of being experience' and 'prevent form any potential disease'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, which restricts the ability to convey more precise meanings. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to limit the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb tense ('habits got change'), subject-verb agreement ('ageing always make people'), and missing articles. For example, 'person not even gain age but also life long experience' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction are noticeable. The writer attempts complex structures, but they are often faulty, which is characteristic of the Band 5 level. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy is required.
