Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often noticed that individuals feel a drastic change in their habits and their perspective as they grow older and gain experience in their life. It is undeniably true and I completely agree with this statement. In the upcoming essay we will discuss the reasons regarding this change.
To commence with, as individuals grow older and responsibilities came in their life such as children and career, their priorities and habits take a different turn. For instance, being parents could affect the habits of an individual related to the money. Any individual who is single barely thinks of saving money, whereas when they get family and children, their perspective changes and they start saving money for their future. Therefore, increasing responsibilities in life whether they are personal or professional, it not only affects the mindset of an individual but also their way of living.
Furthermore, people also experience a change in their life when they travel and get international experience. Travelling and getting exposure to different environments and culture could lead to change in viewpoint, as people start thinking about a situation from different aspects. For example, if someone has a biasd behaviour regarding a certain community or country, their views significantly change once they get a chance to live and know about that community or nation. Similarly, knowledge also affects the habits of people. For example, if someone knows about the detrimental effect of alcohol on their health, they probably stop drinking and educate other people as well.
To sum up, I certainly agree that people's habits and opinions changes as they grow older. This is because of experiences and responsibilities they get in their life. This changes their mindset and ability to deal with the situation. Likewise, information and knowledge also affects their habits and decision-making.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-supported position that people's habits and opinions do change as they age. The ideas are extended appropriately, such as explaining how parenthood shifts financial priorities or how international travel and exposure alter preconceived notions. For instance, the example of a single person versus a parent saving money effectively illustrates the main argument. However, the introduction relies slightly on a formulaic template statement ('In the upcoming essay we will discuss...'), which is unnecessary in a General Training task. Nevertheless, the position remains clear throughout, and the main ideas are well-developed, matching the Band 7 descriptor where all parts are addressed and ideas are extended and supported.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to responsibilities, travel experiences, and a clear concluding summary. Cohesive devices are used adequately to guide the reader, such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', and 'Therefore'. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in transitions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to structure the essay logically. Overall, the structural progression is clear, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, such as 'perspective', 'detrimental effect', 'priorities', and 'decision-making'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though some minor word choice and spelling errors occur, such as 'biasd behaviour' instead of 'biased behaviour' and 'opinions changes' in the conclusion. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is never impeded. The range and control demonstrated align closely with the Band 6.0 and 7.0 descriptors, leaning towards a solid Band 6.5, rounded to 6.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with good attempts at subordinate clauses, such as 'Any individual who is single barely thinks of saving money, whereas when they get family and children, their perspective changes...'. However, there are notable grammatical errors throughout, such as 'responsibilities came in their life' (tense/form error), 'affect the habits of an individual related to the money' (article misuse), and subject-verb agreement issues like 'habits and opinions changes'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur with enough frequency to prevent the essay from reaching Band 7. The control of grammar is consistent with Band 6.
