Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is often noticed that individuals feel a drastic change in their habits and their perspective as they grow older and gain experience in their lives. It is undeniably true and I completely agree with this statement.
To commence with, as individuals grow older and responsibilities come in their lives such as children and a career, their priorities and habits take a different turn. For instance, becoming parents could affect the habits of an individual related to money. Any individual who is single barely thinks of saving money, whereas when they get a family and children, their perspective changes and they start saving money for their future. Therefore, increasing responsibilities in life whether they are personal or professional, it is not only affecting the mindset of an individual but also their way of living.
Furthermore, people also experience a change in their lives when they travel and get international experience. Travelling and getting exposure to different environments and cultures could lead to a change in viewpoint, as people start thinking about a situation from different aspects. For example, if someone has a biased behaviour regarding a certain community or country, their views significantly change once they get a chance to live and know about that community or nation. Similarly, knowledge also affects the habits of people. For example, if someone knows about the detrimental effects of alcohol on their health, they probably stop drinking and educate other people as well.
To sum up, I certainly agree that people's habits and opinions change as they grow older. This is because of experiences and responsibilities they get in their lives. This changes their mindset and ability to deal with the situations. Likewise, information and knowledge also affect their habits and decision-making.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student has successfully addressed all parts of the task by taking a clear, well-supported position agreeing that people change their habits and opinions as they age. The response includes relevant examples, such as how becoming parents shifts financial priorities and how travel broadens perspectives. The ideas are extended and supported effectively throughout the essay. The tone and format are fully appropriate for a General Training Task 2 response. The response meets all the requirements for Band 7, as it presents a clear position throughout with well-developed ideas, though it could benefit from slightly deeper exploration of how opinions specifically evolve over time rather than just habits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to parental responsibilities, then to travel and knowledge, and finally to a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Furthermore', 'For instance', and 'To sum up' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and effectively. However, some minor mechanical referencing could be slightly more fluid to reach the higher bands. Overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for the task. Words and phrases like 'drastic change', 'priorities', 'international experience', and 'detrimental effects' show an attempt to use less common items with some awareness of collocation. There are occasional inaccuracies in word choice or phrasing, such as 'responsibilities come in their lives' instead of 'enter their lives', and 'biased behaviour' instead of 'biased views'. However, these lexical errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly, fitting comfortably into the Band 6.5 or 7 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms effectively, incorporating conditional and relative clauses (e.g., 'Any individual who is single barely thinks...', 'if someone knows about the detrimental effects...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, alongside a few minor grammatical slips such as 'responsibilities come in their lives such as children and a career' (preposition choice and phrasing) and 'whether they are personal or professional, it is not only affecting' (minor structural awkwardness). Punctuation is generally accurate, and control of grammar is good throughout, supporting a solid Band 7 performance.
