Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is quite common for individuals to change their lifestyle and views with increasing age.I completely agree with this statement.I will be discuss the reasons in upcoming paragraphs.

First of all, In their young age people are very social and and active they spend their lot of time with friends and enjoy their company however when they get old they give more importance to their health beacuse sometime they have some health issue such as joint pain high blood pressure so that is why they give more preffrence to stay at home rather then going outside. Moreover when people get old they also eat healty food instead of any fast food. For example if people eats a lot of junk food in their young age but increasing the age they preffer healthy food and keep their body fit with daily exercise.

Secondly, With incresing the age people learn new experiences because they did lots of mistakes in their young age.Furthermore, when people get old age they can change their thinking for any topic for example if young person give more importance to their career in their young age but after some years they maintain balance between their business and family.

In conclusion,it is a very common thing that people change their habits and thinking when they get old and i am completely agree with this notion beacuse in their old age people give more importance to their health and family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The student addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that they completely agree with the statement that people change habits and opinions as they get older. Main ideas regarding health changes and life experiences are introduced, with some supporting examples such as shifting from fast food to healthy food and balancing careers with family. However, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 239 words. Because the length requirement is not met, this places a ceiling on Task Achievement. Furthermore, some ideas are slightly under-developed and lack the depth expected for higher band scores, leading to a Band 5.5 classification for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which provides a basic overall structure. The student attempts to use cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion'. However, paragraphing is somewhat rudimentary, and referencing is occasionally unclear or repetitive. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or overused, and sentence-to-sentence transitions lack fluidity. Despite these flaws, the progression of ideas is discernible and the response maintains a coherent overall arrangement, fitting the descriptors for Band 5.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using common terms related to lifestyle, health, and age, such as 'lifestyle', 'joint pain', 'high blood pressure', and 'fast food'. However, there are notable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'healty' instead of 'healthy', 'preffrence' instead of 'preference', and 'incresing' instead of 'increasing'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are limited, and the range is just sufficient to communicate the basic message, though errors occasionally draw the reader's attention. This aligns closely with the Band 5.0 lexical resource descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'statement.I', 'conclusion,it'), run-on sentences, and basic subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'if people eats', 'young person give'). Articles and prepositions are also frequently misused or omitted (e.g., 'in their young age', 'when people get old age'). While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at complex structures frequently introduce errors that require reader effort, supporting a Band 5.0 score.
