Student answer (Band 6.0)

As people getting older, their thoughts and activities changes according to their interest and preference. I agree with the given statement and elaborate my point of view in upcoming paragraphs.

To commence with, in the young age people are more active and passionate and have a willing to do new challenges but as they are old they prefer to do more rest and sometime their will to do work gonna be decrease. For example, in the adulthood, people are attending more parties and like to do a travelling, on the other hand in the old age they like the quiet places.

Moving further, young people are more aggressive and make a decision very quickly without knowing the real fact behind on it. The reason behind it they have a less knowledge and experience about the life and also they do not like to take a advice from their elder. However, when they reach to that age their thinking process is totally change as well as they become more calm and polite because of the understanding of the fact of life. For example, in the university time students do some wrong activities that are not good for their career but when they run their families and take responsibilties in that they relaize their mistakes done in their early age.

To conclude, there is no doubt, in the early age people behave immature and also involve in bad activities but they grow in their life become more mature and responsible person because of their knowledge and life lesson.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear position that people do change their habits and opinions as they age. The writer attempts to support this stance with relevant examples, such as young people attending parties versus older adults preferring quiet places, and the transition from impulsive youth to more calm, responsible adults. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, falling into the Band 6 descriptor territory. For instance, the discussion around university students making mistakes lacks depth and could be more fully expanded. Despite these minor limitations in extension, all parts of the task are addressed, and a clear overarching position is maintained throughout the response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different main ideas, such as changes in activities versus changes in thinking processes and maturity. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, using transitions such as 'To commence with', 'Moving further', and 'To conclude'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like 'when they reach to that age' and 'the reason behind it they have a less knowledge' show awkward referencing and a lack of smooth flow between clauses, which aligns closely with the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'aggressive', 'immature', 'responsibilities', and 'preference'. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'have a willing to do new challenges', 'do a travelling', and 'realize their mistakes done in their early age'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present throughout the text, but they do not impede communication, making this a solid fit for a Band 5.5 or 6.0. Given the successful use of adequate everyday vocabulary alongside some less common lexical items, a score of 6.0 is justified.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures with subordinate clauses like 'when they reach to that age their thinking process is totally change'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses, prepositions, and article usage, such as 'As people getting older', 'activities changes', 'in the young age', and 'take a advice'. While these errors are noticeable and detract from the overall accuracy, they rarely impede communication. The control of grammar is uneven, reflecting the characteristics of the Band 5 descriptor where attempts at complex sentences are often faulty.
