Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the statement that people change their habits and opinions as they get older. Main ideas are presented, such as changes in hobbies, physical factors, and cognitive maturity. However, these ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on brief, simplistic examples like a person stopping badminton to read books. The body paragraphs tend to list factors rather than fully extending and exploring them with robust supporting arguments. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0 according to the descriptors, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, but some parts are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as physical factors and medical research. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition 'In other worlds' instead of 'In other words' demonstrates a minor slip, and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'the6 were used to use modern techologies'). Paragraph transitions lack seamless progression, and cohesive devices are somewhat basic. These features align with a Band 6.0, where the response is generally coherent with a logical overall structure, but local cohesion shows mechanical errors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating everyday ideas and attempting some less common items such as 'digitalisation', 'dignified version', and 'cognitive maturity' (implied by brain changes). There are several noticeable spelling, word choice, and typographical errors throughout the text, including 'stronly' for strongly, 'thorughout' for throughout, 'tolay' for to play, 'soecially' for especially, and 'pasasage' for passage. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is rarely impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, which reflects the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Thorughout the life they gain experience... and this helped them to shape...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are numerous errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, including 'Age changes humans in number of ways', 'its not hundred percent correct', 'Getting old changed people' (instead of changes), and typo errors like 'the6 were used to use'. Punctuation is also occasionally shaky. Because simple sentences are generally controlled well while complex structures feature frequent errors that occasionally strain comprehension, a Band 5.0 is appropriate here.
