Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether people change their habits and opinions as they age, presenting a clear, albeit partially developed, position. The writer partially agrees and attempts to support this with ideas such as financial stability and physical capability allowing people to maintain habits, contrasted with physical decline or social pressures causing changes. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or lack logical clarity, such as the sudden statistic regarding '82% white hair individuals' or the abrupt social point about parents being forced out of homes. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the reasoning occasionally lapses into sweeping generalisations and lacks sustained support, placing it comfortably within the Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some overall organisation with basic paragraphing and transitional phrases like 'To commence with', 'Nevertheless', and 'To conclude'. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence connections. For instance, the link between financial support and staying in touch with habits is somewhat disjointed, and referencing pronouns (such as 'their children thinks that grey beared people are distrubing their privacy') can be ambiguous. Cohesive devices are at times repetitive, mechanical, or inaccurately used, leading to an overall lack of smooth logical flow. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion needs significant strengthening to reach higher bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and often unnatural, reflecting noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'contemporary eon', 'grey-beared', 'myraid', 'eleborated', 'finacial', 'awakard', and 'distrubing'. While the writer attempts less common phrases, these are frequently inaccurate ('82% white hair individuals'). The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic meaning of the argument, but frequent lexical errors and odd phrasing cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score to a Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, with frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. There are numerous issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'force them to stay', 'old age people feels awakard'), article usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'there are numerous people who are stronger enough to contiune'). Complex sentences are attempted, but they are frequently faulty or structurally confused. These errors occur regularly and can cause difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning usually remains discernible, aligning the response with the Band 5 descriptors for grammar.
