Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student addresses the prompt by clearly taking a stance in agreement with the statement that people change their habits and opinions as they get older. However, the response falls significantly short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 168 words. This under-length impacts the overall development of ideas, leaving the supporting points rather brief and under-developed. While the writer attempts to provide examples—such as mentioning an elderly father and the accumulation of life experience—these points lack full elaboration and depth. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially due to the severe length penalty, placing the task achievement score firmly at Band 4.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The text demonstrates a basic organizational structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, paragraphing is unconventional and formatting issues, such as missing spaces and broken sentences like "explaining another supporting pointin favor of my agreement", heavily detract from readability. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, and sometimes inaccurate, such as using "supporting my disagreement" right after stating a strong agreement. Overall progression is hindered by these structural and cohesive flaws, resulting in a score of Band 4.0 for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that strain the reader. Examples of errors include "changf", "opionion", "istrongly", "farther", "expereance", and "holl". The student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary like "habits", "opinions", and "modernity", but the frequent lexical inaccuracies and limited range restrict the score. The repetitive use of simple words means the response does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands, fitting the Band 4.0 descriptors closely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that contain frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and syntax. Sentences are often fragmented or run together without proper spacing or punctuation, as seen in "my father get almost 85 years.sometimes he forget". Subject-verb agreement errors and tense inconsistencies are prevalent throughout the text. These frequent errors cause strain for the reader and significantly impede communication, justifying a Band 4.0 score for grammatical range and accuracy.
