Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The candidate has unfortunately answered an entirely different prompt regarding healthy lifestyles and why people do not follow them, rather than the provided prompt about people changing their habits and opinions as they get older. Despite writing over the required 250 words and attempting to present ideas, the complete failure to address the core prompt regarding age-related changes in habits and opinions means the task response is severely off-topic. Under the official IELTS band descriptors, a response that fails to address the prompt cannot achieve a passing score for Task Achievement. Therefore, a band score of 3.0 is awarded.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical flow and progression are heavily disrupted by numerous cohesion errors and missing transitions. Phrases like 'To the paradoxical stole' and 'Overall, the situation can be improved' show an inappropriate use of cohesive devices that do not logically connect the ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organization of ideas within paragraphs is very confusing and repetitive, particularly in the body paragraphs where points about cost and discipline are jumbled together. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. This aligns with Band 4.0 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily impacted by spelling and word-choice errors that frequently strain the reader's comprehension. Examples such as 'preventale', 'asctive', 'consent very', 'hassels', and 'accerale taxes' demonstrate a very limited control over lexical items. While the student attempts to use less common words like 'prominent' and 'paradoxical', the inaccurate usage and severe spelling mistakes prevent the communication of precise meanings. The range is inadequate for an academic or general training task at a higher level, fitting the Band 4.0 criteria.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
Grammatical control is extremely weak throughout the response. The text contains a high frequency of basic and complex sentence errors, run-on sentences, and fragmented clauses, such as 'However many individuals are or aware from the good diet but they do not follow' and 'Furthermore because fruits and nutritious foods cost more.' Punctuation is largely neglected, with missing full stops and capital letters leading to run-on thoughts (e.g., 'therefore, they lose their sendby interest in excercise exercise and healthy food'). The range of structures is limited and marred by persistent errors that cause considerable difficulty for the reader, placing it at Band 4.0.
