IELTS Writing Task 2 question

It is very common for people to change both their habits and their opinions as they get older.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is true that as people get old, there is are changes in behaviour such as habits and opinions. I agree with this statement and will tell the contributing factors such as responsibilities and experiences usually mold habits and opinions among people.

First of all, sometimes people change their habits when they start to take responsibilities of their family members. Particularly, when a person get marry then they start to think about saving money, to build a house. In order to accomplish this, they start to change their habits such as working more hours, stop wasting money, become punctual and spending more time with family. In addition to this, as people get old, they become less materialistic, as they think living life peacefully more important rather than collecting money.

Another contributing factor is education through people get awareness about beliefs. For instance, during childhood, we often trust people blindly and assume all as our friends. However, through passing years, there is always realization that most of people behave nicely as they have hidden intention to betray in order to get money or anything else. Therefore, getting old, life experiences can change your opinions about other people who often are your friends, but will become enemies at one point of your life.

To conclude, opinions and habits are being changed as people get aged. In this essay, I agree with this fact and explain the reasons for this. Life experiences can change the opinions and habits are being changed through family responsibilities.
