Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often said that people intend to change their views and the way of interacting as they grow. I personally agree with this statement and the reasons with relevant illustrations are mentioned in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, when parents are raising their children, they teach their young ones how to behave with everyone. The adults, on the other hand, intend to deal with things from their fellow classmates. It is well said that - "What you see is what you learn". However, with this fast-paced life, there are considerable changes which are noticeable, and therefore every individual should change their lifestyle and views towards them.

Secondly, there also might be some negative effects of changing their lives. To illustrate this, the professor teaches the student how to be gentle and well-mannered towards others. But, sometimes they might see how to make arguments from their mates. As they grow, they come across more people and they face many situations where they could show their opinions and learn from them. For instance, if someone is lazy and not able to change this habit even after getting hired in a reputed company, they might be fired by the department.

Therefore, it is said that changes should be made in everyone's personality in order to perform well in any situation. This could also be helpful in maintaining peace amongst the family and friends. Adding to it, it also helps a student to do well in their academic progress if they adopt good qualities and try to enhance them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position agreeing with the prompt that people change their habits and opinions as they get older. Main ideas are presented, such as the influence of parents versus peers and the necessity of adapting to changing environments. However, these ideas are somewhat underdeveloped and generalized rather than fully extended. For instance, the example regarding the lazy employee getting fired touches upon a relevant consequence, but the logical connection to how habits change over time could be articulated more thoroughly. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, placing the response comfortably within the band 6 descriptor set where relevant ideas are present but lack deep elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to divide distinct points, such as the discussion on childhood learning in the second paragraph and negative effects or workplace examples in the third. However, Coherence and Cohesion suffer due to mechanical and sometimes unclear transitional devices. For example, phrases like 'To begin with' and 'Secondly, there also might be some negative effects' do not always logically fit the arguments that follow, as paragraph three actually discusses learning from peers and workplace consequences rather than strictly negative effects. Referencing is occasionally obscure, making the progression of ideas feel somewhat disjointed at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating meaning through phrases such as 'fast-paced life', 'reputed company', and 'maintaining peace'. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary, though these are occasionally marred by imprecise word choice or awkward collocation, such as 'people intend to change their views and the way of interacting' instead of 'tend to', and 'deal with things from their fellow classmates' rather than 'learn from'. Spelling and word formation are generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication, matching the criteria for a solid band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar. Examples include conditional structures such as 'if someone is lazy and not able to change this habit... they might be fired'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as 'when parents are raising their children, they teach their young ones how to behave with everyone. The adults, on the other hand, intend to deal with things from their fellow classmates' where 'adults' is used incorrectly for peers or children. Punctuation and article usage also show occasional lapses, but these errors rarely impede overall comprehension.
