IELTS Writing Task 2 question

It is very common for people to change both their habits and their opinions as they get older.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

People tend to change both their habits and their views as they get older. I strongly agree with this statement. This essay will state the reasons for it including my own experience.

As individuals get older, they mature, and develop critical thinking skills. They are capable of distingushing between right and wrong matter, which guide them to take better decisions in their lives. Because people are educated and know about the current affairs, they grow insights of knowing more about the subject matters. A child may not be intellectually matured, so they may not have understood the cause, effect, and solutions of many subject matters, which require complex thinking. For instance, a child may not be aware about environmental pollution, so they might throw plastics anywhere. However, when they are adult they know how to deal with this.

At young age, people may spend most of their time in playing games, watching cartoons on TV, and going to school. But after they grow up, they get busier with different reasons, such as fulfilling responsibilities, becoming financially independent, and doing jobs. Hence, it is very common for people to change their habits when they reach at mature age. From my experience, when I was younger, I used to spend most of the time with my grandmother listening tales, and learning how to read and write. But at this stage of my life, I am grown up and my habits and opinions are changed. For example, I am more responsible now, independent, and adaptable to different cultures.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that people change both their habits and their opinions as they get older because they are educated and matured, and are capable of making right decisions.
