Student answer (Band 6.0)
Over the last decade human behaviour has changed drastically. It is often argued that age has a greater impact on people’s behaviour and thinking patterns. I agree with the statement because when people get older their ideas and actions transform according to their responsibilities and their life experiences.
To begin with, when people get old, their responsibilities change according to their status. Kids are focused on their studies, teenagers are focused on their higher studies and career targets. However, when they come to age twenty-five or thirty, they are more focused on finding a life partner or career development. By the time an individual’s focus moves to looking after their children, buying a house and having a stable income. These life stage movements change personal responsibilities and ultimately these affect their habits and opinions. As an example, younger kids visit the library frequently, while elders visit hospitals and workplaces.
Another thing is people's experiences. When they get older, they have many life experiences which change their personality. It is really different the way a less experienced person looks at the world. Therefore, their thinking and actions are different from an experienced person. For instance, an experienced businessman's approach towards a new market trend is different from an inexperienced businessman. Thus, life experiences change people's habits and opinions.
In conclusion, over time people's behaviour and thinking patterns change because of their changing responsibilities and life experiences. I agree with this statement as life stage changes have a high impact on human habits and opinions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses the prompt, taking a well-defined stance that people do change habits and opinions as they age. The writer supports this position with logical reasons related to life stages, changing responsibilities, and accumulated experience. For example, the contrast drawn between students and adults dealing with career and family responsibilities effectively extends the core ideas. While the examples, such as 'younger kids visit the library frequently, while elders visit hospitals and workplaces,' are slightly simplistic and broad, they are sufficient to illustrate the argument. The ideas are relevant and developed throughout the essay, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or 7.0. Because the response covers all parts of the task with a clear position and supporting examples, a band score of 6.5 is well justified.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, moving smoothly from a general introduction to specific points on responsibilities and experiences. Cohesive devices are used appropriately, such as 'To begin with,' 'However,' and 'Another thing is,' guiding the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and logically, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-topic. However, some transitions like 'Another thing is' are slightly conversational, and referencing can occasionally feel mechanical. Overall, the progression is clear and easy to follow, aligning closely with the Band 6.0 to 6.5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-related terms such as 'responsibilities,' 'life experiences,' 'career development,' and 'thinking patterns.' There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but word choice and collocation are occasionally unnatural, such as 'come to age twenty-five' instead of 'reach the age of twenty-five' or 'life stage movements' instead of 'life transitions.' Spelling and word-choice errors are minor and do not impede communication. Because the lexical resource is adequate to convey the meaning with some flexibility, but contains noticeable inaccuracies in collocation, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts various complex structures, such as conditional or dependent clauses (e.g., 'when people get older their ideas and actions transform...'). While there are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing—such as 'when they come to age twenty-five or thirty' and 'It is really different the way a less experienced person looks at the world'—these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. The control over basic grammar is generally sound, and punctuation is handled adequately. This balance of mixed sentence structures and infrequent communication-blocking errors fits the Band 6.0 descriptor accurately.
