It is very common for people to change both their habits and their opinions as they get older.

Do you agree or disagree?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Habits are the attributes that one learn over a period of time. With the advancing age , I think it is difficult for a person to change the things he has been practicing the whole life. In my opinion I totally disagree with the statement.

There are many contributing factors that habits cannot be easily changed or modified with the passage of time. Firstly, it takes years to develop a habit as a part of routine. For instance, a person who has a habit of reading newspaper in the morning ; cannot simply give up reading it just because currently other ways of communication or getting information has become common or easily accessible these days. Secondly, every person has his own opinion regarging a particular matter or issue which to some extent can have impact due to a change in modern ways but the decision never changes. For instance, a person who loves tea cannot just give it up due to the new coffee trend and varieties available in the local market nowadays.

Moreover, its extremely difficult and challenging as well to alter one's reponse as the age advances.

However, some people who likes to break sterotypes or who act to be cool to fit in the modern society; can adapt themselves according to the trends despite of any age.

All in all, it can be said that its difficult to accept a change in late stage of life as compared to in young age.Things get more flexible and easily managed when practising them in early days of life compared to the getting older when stubbonness becomes a part of personality.
