Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a common belief that people's mindset evolve with their age. I completely agree with this statement as with age people become more knowledgable and wise.

With age people learn about things from various sources which eventually change their opinions. Generally people form their opinions based on the informations that they have but as they gather new informations from others, internet, and books, they develop different opinions based on the new informations. Moreover, as we get older, our minds develop an ability to understand different point of views, which helps us to update our own beliefs. For example, at one point in my life I used to feel we should elect a political party which is working for our own community. However, after understanding that it is an injustice to other communities in my area, I believe we should select a parties which can work for all communities without any discrimination.

Furthermore, people change their habits as they get older and have more responsibilities. For instance, there is a great possibility that someone consuming excessive amount of alcohol in their 20s will change their habit after getting married or after becoming a parent as now their goals have shifted towards family. In addition to this, people change their preferred activities based on their energy level, schedule and health. With age energy level and health keeps downgrading and we become more busier with our own life. Thus, people choose activities that can keep them healthy or make more relaxed.

To conclude, I belive that people change their views and habits as they grow older as their minds develop and became aware about new informations. Also, people change their behaviour because of new goals and priorities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear and fully developed position in complete agreement with the statement. The writer extends relevant ideas throughout both body paragraphs, supporting arguments with logical reasoning and a clear personal example regarding changing political views. The introduction clearly states the writer's stance, and the conclusion succinctly reiterates the main arguments regarding increased knowledge and shifting priorities. The ideas are well-conceived and entirely relevant to the task, aligning closely with the Band 7 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from general knowledge acquisition to changing responsibilities and energy levels. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', and 'To conclude' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the text, though referencing and paragraphing could occasionally be more tightly managed. Overall, the structural progression meets the criteria for Band 7.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'knowledgable', 'priorities', 'responsibilities', and 'discrimination'. However, there are notable lexical and spelling inaccuracies, such as using 'informations' (an uncountable noun treated as plural) and spelling errors like 'belive' and 'became'. Word choices are generally adequate for communication, but these recurring errors in word formation and spelling prevent the lexical score from reaching Band 7.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional-like structures successfully (e.g., 'after getting married or after becoming a parent as now their goals have shifted'). However, there are persistent grammatical errors, including missing commas after introductory phrases, subject-verb agreement issues ('mindset evolve', 'energy level and health keeps downgrading', 'parties which can work'), and non-standard phrasing ('make more relaxed'). These errors do not impede communication, placing the response comfortably at Band 6.
