Student answer (Band 6.5)

Few people usually change their way of habits and view as they grow in age. I completely agree with the view because people have different experiences at their different stages of the life that can be related to their personal life, professional life or may be things which happens around them.

Firstly people have different thinking towards a social topics which can have both postive views or negative views on that particular topic. For example, let's say a country's government is bring a new law regarding driving vehicle on road. This law can have different views like some people might think that this law is useless as compare to someother law, but on the other side some people think that this law is very important for the road safety.

Futhermore, there are many habits that people change, when they were kid to now they are older. For example, when people are small that time they have so much curosity to do new things like playing games, going outside with friends etc. As when people goes from small age to adult age, people have many responsibility to follow like taking care of family, friends and social life. Most importantly is to pursue their carrier to get a good lifestyle.

Although, not every belief or habit changes with age. Core values, such as honesty, kindness and respect for others, may remain stable throughout a person's life. Certain habits formed during childhood may also continue into old age. Despite this, the way people apply these values and behave in daily life often develops with maturity.

In conclusion, I agree that people commonly change their habits and opinions as they grow older. Increased responsibilities, personal experiences and exposure to different perspectives naturally encourage individuals to adjust their lifestyles and reconsider their views.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses the prompt directly, presenting a clear position that people change their habits and opinions as they grow older. The writer acknowledges both sides by noting that some core values remain stable, which adds balance. Ideas are extended with relevant examples, such as shifting responsibilities from childhood to adulthood and reactions to potential new government driving laws. While some examples like the driving law are slightly convoluted, the main arguments are sufficiently developed to meet the requirements of Band 6.5 or 7.0. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear stance throughout, satisfying the criteria for a Band 7 performance in Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects of the prompt (opinions and habits), a balancing paragraph acknowledging stability, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Futhermore', 'Although', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph focusing on a distinct sub-topic. Referencing is generally clear, though occasional awkward phrasing affects the flow. These features place the essay solidly within the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range, demonstrating a clear logical progression throughout.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to use less common items and topic-related vocabulary such as 'perspectives', 'responsibilities', 'maturity', and 'core values'. However, there are notable lexical and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'way of habits' instead of 'habits', 'bring' instead of 'bringing', 'curosity' instead of 'curiosity', and 'carrier' instead of 'career'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the lexical score from reaching higher bands. The range is sufficient for some flexibility and precision, but the frequency of word-choice and spelling errors keeps the score at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating subordinate clauses and conditional ideas (e.g., 'As when people goes from small age to adult age...'). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent minor errors with prepositions, articles, subject-verb agreement, and tense consistency, such as 'people goes', 'at their different stages of the life', and 'things which happens'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but sentence structures often feel clunky or over-extended. Because errors persist and affect multiple sentences, the grammar performance aligns best with Band 5.5 to 6.0, settling at a Band 6.0.
