Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response clearly expresses a position agreeing with the prompt, stating that experiences later in life alter our habits and perspectives. However, the essay is severely under-length, containing only 145 words against the required 250-word minimum. This results in a heavy penalty for Task Achievement, as the ideas are left drastically underdeveloped. While the introduction outlines an intent to discuss reasons with examples, the body paragraphs are cut short and fail to properly extend or fully support the arguments. For instance, the mention of gaining wisdom and dropping bad habits is introduced but lacks concrete examples from the writer's own knowledge or experience. Consequently, the task is addressed only partially, warranting a lower band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a basic attempt at organization, utilizing standard transitional phrases such as 'To being with', 'First and foremost', and 'Secondly'. However, paragraphing is problematic; the student cuts off the second body paragraph prematurely, and the overall progression feels disjointed due to the lack of a conclusion. Furthermore, referencing and cohesive ties are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward phrasing like 'This happebecause at a young age, mostly in childhood as they are easy to be infulanced by someone.' While there is an overall discernible flow of ideas, the lack of a proper concluding paragraph and the abrupt termination of the text pull the coherence score down into the lower middle bands.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for expressing simple ideas, utilizing words such as 'routines', 'judgements', 'adulthood', and 'infulanced'. However, there are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, including 'absoultely', 'totaly', 'being' (instead of begin), 'ample of reason' (grammatically incorrect collocation), 'expeiences', 'changes' (instead of change), and 'infulanced'. The range of vocabulary is rather limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms. While the lexical choices do not entirely impede communication, the combination of frequent spelling mistakes and a restricted vocabulary pool prevents the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The reason for my agreement along with examples are justified in further paragraphs' and 'individual at a young age might have learned some bad habits but they changes in their adulthood.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring multiple basic errors like subject-verb agreement issues ('individual are gettting', 'they changes'), tense inconsistencies, and typographical errors. Complex structures are often faulty rather than fully controlled. Although the meaning remains mostly understandable despite the errors, the high frequency of grammatical slips keeps the score anchored in the lower bands according to the descriptors.
