Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The student addresses the prompt by expressing a partial agreement regarding whether people change habits and opinions as they get older. However, the response falls severely short of the length requirement, containing only 166 words compared to the 250-word minimum. Due to this under-length constraint, the ideas presented in the body paragraphs remain underdeveloped and lack sufficient support and extension. For example, the mention of children playing video games and eating ice cream is stated simply without fully tying back to how this shifts over time. Consequently, Task Achievement is penalised primarily for failing to meet the minimum word count and the resulting lack of full idea development, placing it firmly at a Band 4.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organizational structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, overall progression is limited and paragraphing is inadequate due to the short length. Cohesive devices are either missing, mechanical, or awkward, such as starting the second paragraph with 'in the commence with,' and the opposing view with 'on the another side'. Referencing is also faulty, as seen in phrases like 'these are both two different things' and 'still in the age of 50 or 60s the are used to of tjere habit'. While the text has a discernible direction, the mechanical and inaccurate use of cohesive ties and poor paragraph cohesion restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The lexical resource is very basic and repetitive. The student relies on simple vocabulary such as 'changes', 'choices', 'habits', 'games', and 'different things'. There are frequent word choice and collocation errors, such as 'mostly finds that there is alot of changes', 'i am partially agree', 'liking and unlinking', 'stict with there old habits', and 'bite there teeth with their mounth'. Spelling errors are also common throughout the response, including 'resoultion', 'alot', 'commence', 'stict', and 'mounth'. Because the vocabulary is limited and contains numerous errors that occasionally cause strain for the reader, a Band 4.5 is warranted.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and some longer sentence structures, but control is weak. There is an absence of complex multi-clause structures handled accurately. Grammatical accuracy is low, with frequent errors in verb forms, articles, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement. Examples of major grammatical inaccuracies include 'mostly finds that there is alot of changes', 'human beings desire and their liking and unlinking are not be same always it changing', 'some children was like to eat', and 'the are used to of tjere habit'. Punctuation is also poorly handled, with spaces before commas and periods. These frequent errors across basic and attempted complex structures result in a Band 4.0.
