Student answer (Band 5.0)

As people grow up, it is quite easy for anyone to change their habits and opinions. Although this trend has certain advantages, it also has some disadvantages. I strongly agree to this, because of the age the maturity increases, and the influence of the people matters.

One of the main reasons for this is that, the life teachs what is good or what is bad. This is be because of the experiences during their childhood. For instance, as a school going kid, they are limited to school premises, and regular rotuine upto grade 12, but once they enter University, they get overwhelemed with the wide oppurnitites, and make the best use of it. As a result, they become the best version of themselves.

Another important point to consider is that, the professional expsoure is going to shape everyone in the best way possible. For instance, the mentor is going to guide them to climb the stairs of the company, and reach the highest level possible, which results in excellent salary growth, and in return the personal life is going to flourish with all the luxuries. The main reason to work hard is to have peaceful life.

In conclusion, people change for good habits, and opinion as they get old, which is certainly the best desicion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by agreeing that people change habits and opinions as they age, citing reasons such as maturity and life experiences. However, the task achievement is hindered significantly by the word count falling short of the 250-word minimum, as it contains only 215 words. Furthermore, the development of ideas is limited; the explanation in the second body paragraph shifts slightly into discussing university life and general self-improvement without deeply linking it back to how opinions specifically change, and the third paragraph leans into professional exposure rather than a clear discussion of evolving opinions and habits. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is met and fully extend their arguments with more direct examples related to shifts in habits and opinions over time.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a basic structure with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing some overall organisation. However, the logical progression is at times difficult to follow because of abrupt shifts between ideas and weak cohesive links. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph ('This is be because of the experiences...') introduces awkward phrasing and mechanical cohesion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs themselves feel truncated and lack internal cohesion. Furthermore, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of pronouns like 'they' and 'everyone' which lack precise antecedents in places. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider range of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure each paragraph has a clear, unified focus with logical transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student displays a limited but minimally adequate vocabulary range suitable for addressing the basic topic. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'teachs' instead of 'teaches', 'rotuine' instead of 'routine', 'upto' instead of 'up to', 'overghelemed' instead of 'overwhelmed', 'oppurnitites' instead of 'opportunities', 'expsoure' instead of 'exposure', and 'desicion' instead of 'decision'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary items like 'professional exposure' and 'mentor', these inaccuracies and spelling mistakes cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the lexical score from reaching a higher band. Developing more accurate spelling and precise word choice will greatly enhance this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay features a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence forms, such as conditional and introductory clauses ('Although this trend has certain advantages...', 'as a school going kid...'). However, the grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include structural awkwardness and preposition errors like 'because of the age the maturity increases', subject-verb agreement issues ('the life teachs'), and fragment sentences or dangling modifiers ('for instance, as a school going kid, they are limited...'). Punctuation is also faulty in places, with unnecessary commas disrupting sentence flow. A wider variety of error-free complex structures and better control over basic grammatical boundaries are required to improve this score.
