Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is an ongoing debate whether prople are likely to change their habits and opinions commonly as they grow older. I completely agree with this view, as people channge their priorities, lifestyles and likings with time. It also depends on theie experience they are gone through and how they take life.

The first and foremost reason why I agree this statement is that, people at very younger age are not very responsible and are habitual of easy life. They spend most of their time enjoying socialising, having fast food and interecting over phines and socila media platforms. However, after starting a career or family, they become responsible managing everything from their healthy lifestyle to household chores. For example, after becoming young adults, they start avoid having junk food and preparing healthy meals at home, exercising and managing personal and professional life very carefully.

Another reason is, people change their opinions because of their experiences. As individuals become older, they meet different people, experience new situations and learn from their mistakes. These experiences can make then reconsider opinions that they had when they were younger. For instance, some young adults may intially believe that working long hours is the best way to achieve success. However, after experiencing stress and spending more time with their families, they may begin to value work-life balance more highly.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that people's habits and opinions often change as they get older. This is mainly because their responsibilities change and their experience give them a different perspective of life

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly stating a position that people change their habits and opinions as they get older and supporting this with relevant ideas. The introduction establishes a clear stance. The body paragraphs explore distinct reasons for these changes, such as shifting responsibilities and accumulating life experiences. Examples, such as transitioning from a lifestyle focused on socializing and fast food to one centered on family and health, as well as altering views on work-life balance, are well-chosen and effectively developed to support the central thesis. The overall progression of ideas is logical and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The essay displays a clear overall organization with a logical progression of ideas throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with the introduction of the writer's stance, followed by body paragraphs exploring responsibilities and life experiences, and concluding with a summary. Cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'However', 'Another reason is', and 'For instance' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, ensuring that the text is easy to follow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow for flexibility and precision, using less common items and collocations with some awareness of style, such as 'ongoing debate', 'priorities', 'responsibilities', and 'work-life balance'. However, there are several typographical and spelling errors throughout the text, including 'prople' instead of 'people', 'channge', 'theie' instead of 'their', 'interecting', 'phines', and 'socila'. Additionally, phrases like 'habitual of easy life' sound slightly unnatural in collocation. Despite these slips, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary remains adequate for the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay utilizes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied clause structures (e.g., 'As individuals become older, they meet different people...'). There are frequent error-free sentences, but a number of grammatical and mechanical errors persist. Examples include article omissions ('at very younger age'), incorrect prepositions ('agree this statement' instead of 'agree with this statement'), and awkward phrasing or verb forms ('experience they are gone through', 'make then reconsider', 'start avoid having'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the overall flow of communication.
