Student answer (Band 6.5)
There is an ongoing debate whether people are likely to change their habits and opinions frequently as they grow older. I completely agree with this view, as people change their priorities, lifestyles and preferences with time. It also depends on their experience they were gone through and how they take life.
The first and foremost reason why I agree with this statement is that, people at a very younger age are not very responsible and are habitual of an easy life. They spend most of their time enjoying, socialising, having fast food and interecting over phones and social media platforms. However, after starting a career or family, they become responsible for managing everything from their healthy lifestyle to household chores. For example, after becoming young adults, they begin avoiding having junk food and start preparing healthy meals at home, exercising and managing personal and professional lives very carefully.
Another reason is, people change their opinions because of their experiences. As individuals become older, they meet different people, experience new situations and learn from their mistakes. These experiences can make them reconsider opinions that they had when they were younger. For instance, some young adults may initially believe that working long hours is the best way to achieve success. However, after experiencing stress and spending more time with their families, they may begin to value work-life balance more highly.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that people's habits and opinions often change as they get older. This is mainly because their responsibilities change and their experiences give them a different perspective of life

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The student addresses all parts of the prompt directly by taking a clear and well-sustained position that people change their habits and opinions as they grow older. The response develops relevant ideas across the body paragraphs, supported by explanations and relatable examples, such as the shift from unhealthy habits to a disciplined lifestyle and changing perspectives on work-life balance. The ideas are extended adequately, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response demonstrates clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with an introduction, followed by two well-structured body paragraphs, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to link ideas, such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'However', and 'For example', though the transitional phrasing can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader smoothly from one point to the next, which aligns well with a Band 7 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary that allows for flexibility and precision, employing appropriate terms such as 'priorities', 'lifestyles', 'responsibilities', and 'work-life balance'. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, though minor lexical inaccuracies appear, such as 'experience they were gone through' instead of 'experiences they have gone through' and 'interecting' instead of 'interacting'. Despite these occasional errors in word choice and spelling, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the message clearly, matching the criteria for Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student produces a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to construct multi-clause sentences effectively, as seen in 'However, after starting a career or family, they become responsible for managing everything...'. There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'people at a very younger age' and 'experience they were gone through', but these errors occur infrequently and rarely impede overall communication. Good control of punctuation is maintained, which supports a solid Band 6 performance.
