Student answer (Band 6.0)

As people grow older their beliefs, mindset and their habits changes with time and they become more rigid and strict on their approach. I am about to discuss that whether the people really change their ideas and thoughts or they remain fixed and same through out their life and not try to improve their way of thinking and acting appropriately.

Firstly, there are a growing number of people who always try to be different from before and they develop their personality in a positive or a negative way. A certain life events and lessons make them mature and cautious. And they lead their personal and professional life in a responsible and sensible way. Their experiences and learnings influences their opinions, habits and ideas heavily to their life.

However, there are a lot of people who have a strict and rigid approach on the life perspectives even if they are faced by bad life experiences and choices but still they are fully convinced about their thoughts and beliefs on people or things. Same is about the habits which can impact their lifestyle but they are unable to be changed because their habits are instilled in their nature.

To my personal opinion, i fully agree to that statement and i believe that most of the people are very sensitive to their life experiences, and they are changed because they become more mature and wise as they grow older.

In conclusion, this is very normal to the large amount of people whose life routines, ideas and beliefs are changed due to their motivation of achieving success in life and developing themselves personally. But there are also people who do not try to work on their personality and to be changed for their better life and future ahead.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether people change their habits and opinions as they age, presenting a clear position in agreement. In the introduction, the writer states, 'I am about to discuss that whether the people really change their ideas...', which is slightly repetitive but establishes the intent. Body paragraphs explore two distinct viewpoints: those who develop and mature through experiences, and those who remain rigid in their perspectives. While the ideas are relevant, some points feel slightly under-developed or repetitive, particularly in the conclusion where the argument is restated without introducing much new extension. Overall, the task is addressed adequately with a clear position maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is organised into five paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader through the structure. However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or repetitive, as seen in 'A certain life events and lessons make them mature...' where article use is faulty, and 'Same is about the habits...' which lacks smooth integration. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the argument, but overall progression can feel somewhat disjointed due to phrasing choices. This aligns closely with the Band 6 criteria for coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their thoughts on human behavior and aging. There are attempts at less common vocabulary items, such as 'rigid', 'cautious', 'perspective', and 'instilled', but these are accompanied by noticeable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'strict and rigid approach on the life perspectives' instead of 'toward life perspectives'. Additionally, words like 'changes' are repeated where 'change' or 'shift' would be more appropriate. Spelling is generally accurate, but lexical control is inconsistent, placing the response firmly at Band 5.5 or a solid Band 6 depending on the exact flexibility demonstrated.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over clause structures with conjunctions like 'even if' and 'because'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('their beliefs, mindset and their habits changes'), incorrect articles ('A certain life events'), and awkward prepositional usage ('on the life perspectives'). Furthermore, capitalization errors occur, such as the lowercase 'i' in 'To my personal opinion, i fully agree'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they persist across most sentences, preventing the grammar score from reaching Band 6.
