Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is commonly found that as people get older they change both their habits and their opinions. I strongly agree with this statement due to maturity and behaviour keep changing as they became elder.
Firstly, maturity can be a major factor in changing people's habits and attitudes. As people grow older, they gain more life experience and become more aware of the consequences of their choices. As a result, they may gradually give up unhealthy habits such as smoking or excessive alcohol consumption. Although they may enjoy smoking, they have to give it up because of health problems. Furthermore, people's priorities can change as they grow older, and they may increasingly value spending quality time with their children and grandchildren.
Additionally, changes in behaviour can also influence people's habits and opinions. As people grow older, they may experience changes in their memory and behaviour, which can affect the way they think and make decisions. For instance, memory loss and hearing difficulties are common among older adults, and these changes can affect their behaviour, communication and decision-making. As a result, older people may gradually change their habits as they experience difficulties associated with ageing.
In conclusion, I completely agree that older people often change their habits and opinions because of they more matured enough to aware of decision they make for their habits. And also, behaviour play crucial role in changing habits associated with difficulty as they getting older.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that people change habits and opinions as they age, supporting this with ideas related to maturity and changing health priorities. However, there is a penalty applied because the text falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 238 words. While the main ideas—such as giving up unhealthy habits like smoking and experiencing cognitive or physical changes—are relevant and partially extended, the under-length nature of the response prevents full development across all parts of the task. Consequently, this caps the task achievement grade.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as maturity versus behavioural changes due to ageing. Cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional clunky phrasing interrupts the natural flow of ideas. Overall, the logical progression is sufficient to achieve a solid band score for structural organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common items such as 'excessive alcohol consumption', 'priorities', and 'decision-making'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, particularly in the introduction and conclusion, such as 'because of they more matured enough to aware of decision'. These minor to moderate errors do not seriously impede communication, but they restrict the range and precision of the response, placing it firmly within the functional band six level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing subordinating clauses such as 'As people grow older, they gain more life experience'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors and awkward structures, such as 'behaviour keep changing as they became elder' and 'because of they more matured enough'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but grammatical errors in verb forms and word classes occur frequently enough to cause occasional difficulty for the reader, matching the descriptors for band 5.5.
