Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that people do change their habits and opinions as they get older. The writer introduces two main arguments: life experiences altering personal perspectives, and physical capabilities declining with age. While the ideas are relevant and supported by personal examples, the development remains somewhat limited and superficial. For instance, the discussion on physical stability mentions parties and morning walks, but these points are not fully extended or explored in depth. However, the writer does cover all parts of the prompt with a consistent stance throughout. These characteristics align closely with the Band 6 descriptor, where relevant ideas are presented, but some are under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a logical overall arrangement with distinct paragraph breaks separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' are utilized to signal transitions between ideas. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, phrases like 'the another reason' and 'some physical stability' feel awkward and disrupt the smooth progression of thought. Additionally, referencing pronouns like 'theire' lack clarity at times. Paragraphing is attempted appropriately, but the overall mechanical nature of cohesive ties and occasional lapses in logical progression place this response at a Band 5.5, rounded to 5.0 due to recurring cohesion issues.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic ideas about aging and habit changes. However, there is a limited range of vocabulary, and numerous word-choice and collocation errors are present, such as 'flipped by the time', 'share market', and 'morning wallk'. Spelling errors like 'experiances', 'theire', 'unneccessary', and 'wallk' occur frequently. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the lexical score. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but inaccurate control over word forms and collocations prevents the response from reaching higher bands. This performance fits the Band 5 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though complex structures are frequently faulty. Examples of grammatical errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('people are not believe'), incorrect tense usage ('before, i like to spend'), and missing articles ('in present', 'on share market'). Punctuation is also problematic in places, with comma splices and incorrect capitalization ('TIme changed'). While communication is generally maintained despite these errors, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies means that error-free sentences are not in the majority. This profile corresponds to a Band 5 level of grammatical control.
