Student answer (Band 4.5)
Yes I agree that by the time people change their opinions and habits as they are getting old because I think with the passage of time people have more experience about the things about they have som different opinions at the early age but with by the time they have changed their opinions because they have seen the things getting in different way or in different manner and does not work like what they think about this things and as far about the habits it's something different it's not like that majority of people change their habits as the get older because I think if a person is intelligent enough that he or she can understand that my this habits is not good in terms of that it can hurt some people or it's not good for my health these kind of people change their habits because they know the consequences and they have a sense of self love kind of thing and on the other side some people are very rigid about their habits and they think that I will always do this because I like this habits and I don't care that how this habits effects the people around me or how it impacts to my health because they have a sense of addiction to their some habits and they can't change those habits and these habits getting rigid by the time and it is impossible sometimes to change these habits. So it's all about your mindset and things like that.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both habits and opinions as people age, presenting a clear position agreeing with the statement. The ideas are relevant and explored through examples such as recognizing negative health consequences or becoming rigid due to addiction. However, the development of ideas tends to be repetitive and somewhat simplistic. For instance, the discussion on habits circles back to the idea of being rigid or health-conscious without introducing fresh perspectives or deeper elaboration. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of support aligns best with a Band 6, where relevant ideas are present but under-developed and prone to circular phrasing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The entire response consists of just one extremely long, run-on sentence spanning all 253 words without a single period. This lack of conventional paragraphing and punctuation creates severe cohesion issues. There is an over-reliance on coordinating conjunctions and additive phrases like 'and', 'because', 'so', and 'as well as' to link clauses, resulting in a mechanical and breathless flow. While the logical progression moves reasonably from opinions to habits, the absence of paragraph breaks and clear sentence boundaries makes the text difficult to follow. This performance clearly sits at Band 4, where information and ideas are not arranged cohesively due to a lack of basic punctuation and structural formatting.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily relies on everyday words such as 'things', 'people', 'habits', and 'opinions'. The writer attempts to use some less common phrases like 'consequences', 'addiction', and 'self love kind of thing', but these attempts are marred by inaccurate word choice and awkward phrasing. Spelling is generally acceptable for common words, but word collocation and stylistic control are weak throughout. The range is adequate to convey the basic argument, but the noticeable errors in lexical collocation and repetitive usage place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical range is severely limited by the complete absence of independent sentence boundaries; the entire text is written as a single, massive run-on sentence connected by coordinating conjunctions. Although the writer attempts complex structures using relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., 'if a person is intelligent enough that he or she can understand that my this habits is not good'), these structures are frequently faulty and ungrammatical. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and pronoun usage, such as 'my this habits is'. Frequent grammatical errors combined with the lack of terminal punctuation cause significant difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 4 descriptor.
