Student answer (Band 5.5)

I agree that it is very common for people to change both their habits and their opinions as they get older because when a personal grows up there level of thinking changes due to several reasons.

Firstly, due to hormonal changes like when you go from childhood to teenagers age, the behavioural is childish and very diplomatic. As, when we grew older our habits and opinions get changed due to practical experience of life because everyone realises there worth and mistakes practically.Every individual has different opinion of perspective which get changes after ages due to their environment of environment. For example- when i was at the age of 10 to 19, I don't like to ate vegetables and fruits; at that time when my parents forced me to ate healthy food , I prefer junk food like burgers, pizza ;etc,If my mom and dad teaches me to eat healthy then I was very upset because at that time I don't have understanding what is good for me and my body. On the contrast, now today I never eat junk food and even changed my all unhealthy habits because not I realise nothing is better than healthy lifestyle.

My uncle has a old age home, a weeks ago, I visited there and meet a lot of old peoples, one aunt name Sandy 80 years old, she taught me that when she was at my age like 30, she was very hardworking due two jobs at one day but now she realises when gets older then it is very necessary to give time of yourself also.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly by agreeing that habits and opinions change over time, fulfilling the core requirements of Task Achievement. A clear position is established in the introduction, stating that people change due to growing up and life experiences. Ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as the personal shift from junk food to healthy eating and the anecdote about meeting an elderly woman named Sandy. However, the development of ideas tends to be simplistic and repetitive, and the examples are anecdotal rather than deeply elaborated. While all parts of the task are addressed, the depth of exploration corresponds to the Band 6 descriptor, where relevant ideas are presented but remain somewhat under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'As', and 'For example' are used to signal logical progression, though referencing and transitional links are occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in awkward phrasing like 'On the contrast, now today'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs is congested, particularly in the first body paragraph which bundles multiple distinct ideas together without smooth transitions. Overall, the organizational flaws and mechanical cohesion place this response firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'diplomatic', 'practical experience', and 'unhealthy lifestyle', but these are often used inaccurately or inappropriately in context (e.g., describing childish behaviour as 'diplomatic'). There are also frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'personal' instead of 'person', 'there' instead of 'their', and 'ate' instead of 'eat'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout the response. Frequent errors are present, including subject-verb agreement issues ('there level of thinking changes'), tense inconsistencies ('when i was at the age of 10 to 19, I don't like to ate'), and malformed conditional or comparative structures ('when gets older then it is very necessary'). While these errors do not completely obscure the overall meaning, they are frequent enough to cause difficulty and strain for the reader, placing the grammar performance at Band 5.0.
