Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that individuals change their habits and their opnions as they grow older. This essay completely agrees with this opnion because they with the passage of time their health does not remain same and their knowledge broaden, as a result these changes occur.

Health is one of the key factors that resulted in the change of habits in the elderly. Energy levels also decrease because their muscles and bones become weak with time. Moreover, they do not have enough strength to perform the same activities they were doing in their young age. For instance, many elderly people prefer gardening or booking reading because their health does not allow them to continue vigrous sports activities.

The problems we face in our daily lives and practical experiences we have with time also teach us valuable lessons. This greatly impacts our way of thinking and contributes to change in opnions. Furthermore, these lessons also inrease our knowledge significantly, which makes elderly individuals to re-consider their prespectives about various situations. For example, in our daily lives we observe that our grandparents' opnions are different from the time when they were younger and this is change is due to the more knowledge they gain from their lifetime experiences.

In conclusion, activities in leisure time and perspectives about different situations change in people as they grow older because their bodies' strength does not remain same and they have more information with passage of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear position that people change their habits and opinions as they grow older, supporting this view with reasons related to health and life experience. Ideas are generally relevant, but the response falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum, containing 240 words. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, keeping the task response limited. Phrases like 'health is one of the key factors that resulted in the change of habits' outline valid points, but the examples provided, such as 'gardening or booking reading,' lack depth and are affected by minor typos. To reach higher bands, the writer must ensure the word count requirement is met and expand further on examples to fully develop each body paragraph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a clear four-paragraph structure comprising an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, moving from health-related habit changes in the first body paragraph to opinion changes based on experience in the second. Cohesive devices are used appropriately, such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion', helping to guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and transitions are at times a bit mechanical, and cohesion can feel slightly repetitive. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, satisfying the criteria for a solid band 6.5 performance in this area.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'vigrous sports activities', 'prespectives', and 'valuable lessons'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors throughout the essay, including 'opnions' (repeated multiple times), 'vigrous' (for vigorous), 'inrease' (for increase), and 'prespectives'. These errors indicate a lack of careful proofreading. While these lexical inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, they prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on spelling accuracy and incorporate a wider variety of sophisticated phrasing with correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'because their muscles and bones become weak with time' and 'which makes elderly individuals to re-consider'. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward constructions, such as 'because they with the passage of time their health does not remain same', 'resulted in the change' (should be result), and 'makes elderly individuals to re-consider' (should be make without 'to'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur frequently enough to place the grammar score firmly in the band 6 category.
