Student answer (Band 6.0)
In resent years people agrue that age affiliates ones character and decisions towards things. I strongly agree with that due to the fact that as one gets older their habits and their opinions changes and it all boils down to experience and responsibilites.
To begin with experience, it has a way of modifying ones behaviour. For instance, my grandfather who had a habit of drinking excessively when he was much younger and saw nothing wrong with that now has a diffrent opinion ragarding excessive intake of acohol due to the effect and the life threatening issueses it left him. Thus changing his believe and habit of drinking.Furthermore, habits tend to change when they are no longer strong enough to carry on. For example, old friends who are of the habit of meeting up every weekend, hanging out to unwind and travel the world when they where much younger may start to reduce as they get older because of health issues, strength to contiue and many other resons that can affect that, one of the significant reasons why they tend to drawback with their perivous habits are responsibilities. they grow to have children to cater for, bills to pay and with all these, scale of prefference starts to set in, which is more important, is this my decision necessary, do i really need this vacation or should my rent be paid first all of these contibutes to why habits and opinion tend to change when one gets older.
In conclusion, experience, responsibilities play a major role in the changes that affects dicisions and habits in older generation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear position and giving reasons and examples. You state, 'I strongly agree with that due to the fact that as one gets older their habits and their opinions changes,' and support this with the example of your grandfather's change of perspective regarding alcohol. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, discussing how life experiences and responsibilities drive personal evolution over time. However, the development of ideas in the second body paragraph becomes somewhat dense and run-on, making the chain of reasoning slightly less focused than it could be. To reach a higher band, ensure ideas are distinctly separated and supported with fully articulated examples. Overall, the task is successfully fulfilled with a clear and consistent stance maintained from introduction to conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
There is a logical progression of ideas throughout the essay, moving from an introduction of the thesis to supporting arguments about experience and responsibilities, followed by a summary conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'For instance', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text. However, paragraphing is somewhat problematic; the second body paragraph is extremely long and encompasses multiple complex ideas, including friendships, health issues, and financial responsibilities, which should ideally be separated into distinct paragraphs. Additionally, referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the sentence starting with 'they grow to have children', where the grammatical subject is slightly ambiguous. Improving paragraph structure will greatly enhance readability and flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The essay displays an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for discussing personal development and lifestyle changes, including terms like 'experience', 'responsibilities', 'excessive intake', and 'scale of preference'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall quality, such as 'resent' instead of 'recent', 'agrue' instead of 'argue', 'diffrent' instead of 'different', 'ragarding' instead of 'regarding', 'believe' instead of 'belief', 'contiue' instead of 'continue', 'resons' instead of 'reasons', 'perivous' instead of 'previous', 'prefference' instead of 'preference', and 'contibutes' instead of 'contributes'. Despite these frequent mechanical errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without severely impeding communication, placing this response securely at the band 5.5 to 6.0 threshold.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to structure longer sentences with clauses, such as in 'For instance, my grandfather who had a habit of drinking excessively when he was much younger...'. However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are several punctuation and sentence boundary issues, notably comma splices and run-on sentences, such as '...and with all these, scale of prefference starts to set in, which is more important, is this my decision necessary, do i really need this vacation or should my rent be paid first all of these contibutes...'. Furthermore, minor grammatical slips occur, such as subject-verb agreement errors ('opinions changes', 'experience, responsibilities play'). The frequency of these errors means that simple sentences are often more reliable than complex ones.
