Student answer (Band 5.0)

People experience different situations in their lives with the passage of time as they are getting old. While become aged many people change their habits as well as their thinking. I agree that most people change their lifestyles, manners and opinions.

On one hand, when people are getting they gather so many experienses and passes from difficult phases in their lives. They know how different situations can change a personality. They are mature enough to look back and learn from their mistakes and give honest opinions to their younger ones.

On the other hand, some people change their habits such as coming late at home, lack of emotions, stubborness, not helping others involve in different kinds of activities that are not healthy for them. When they comes to their 50+ they realized what they have done and how they can make things right. Therefore, the become more humble try to concentrate on their health and takes part in charity as well.

In my opinion, that they definitely change with the passage of time they want to become a role model for their children and grand-children. They starts spending more time with their families and try to maintain good relationships with others.

In conclusion, some people change as time goes by because they become more mature and oraganize than before and trying to be a good person in the community.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by agreeing that people change their habits and opinions as they age, presenting relevant ideas such as gaining life experience and seeking to become role models for younger generations. However, the development of ideas is limited, and the response falls short of the minimum 250-word requirement, clocking in at only 229 words. This negative impact on task length prevents a higher score. While a clear position is maintained throughout, the supporting arguments are somewhat superficial and lack detailed extension. For instance, the discussion on changing habits in one's fifties touches upon interesting points like charity and health, but it is not fully explored. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed in terms of depth, aligning well with the Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a logical overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing different aspects of aging, and a conclusion. However, cohesion at the sentence level is frequently faulty or mechanical. The transition phrases used ('On one hand', 'On the other hand', 'In my opinion') help guide the reader, but referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'In my opinion, that they definitely change with the passage of time they want to become...', where grammatical linking is absent. Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are relatively short and underdeveloped. Overall organization exists, but progression is hindered by awkward transitions and poor sentence-to-sentence flow, making Band 5 the most appropriate score.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for conveying basic meaning, but the range is quite limited and repetitive. The writer attempts some less common items like 'stubborness', 'humble', and 'role model', but there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'experienses' instead of experiences, 'passes' instead of passed, and 'comes' instead of come. Furthermore, collocation is occasionally awkward, as seen in 'coming late at home' instead of coming home late. Although these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to restrict the score to Band 5, as the lexical control lacks precision and flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and missing prepositions, such as 'While become aged many people change...', 'When people are getting they gather...', and 'When they comes to their 50+ they realized...'. Punctuation is also problematic, leading to run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'In my opinion, that they definitely change with the passage of time they want to become...'. The high frequency of grammatical errors causes difficulty for the reader and means that complex structures are frequently faulty, placing the writing firmly at Band 5.
