Student answer (Band 6.5)
Individuals change their routine and their perspective as they age. While some people remain rigid, some adapt to the latest trends and technologies. I agree that people should change with time to survive in the modern era.
As technology is continuously evolving, it provides convenience to people. Previously, people used to clean their houses by themselves, which puts physical strain on their bodies, while nowadays, people are using automated machines like an automatic vaccumm that saves their time and effort. Therefore, it promotes a healthy lifestyle as people can focus their time in doing other activities like doing physical exercises, helping children with their homework in parallel. Moreover, in young age, people used to do a lot of things to save money like replacing a faulty switch, however, their priorities change with age. They prioritise their safety first by calling an expert to get those things done safely.
In addition, their opinions change as they get older. Owing to lack of experience, adults restricts their thinking within a limited zone whereas when they grow older, their experience helps them to broaden their perspective to see things from a different angle. For instance, young adults take decisions emotionally while seniors first access the situation and take their decisions based on their past experiences. Furthermore, young adults do not spend enough time with their families and often show lack of empathy due to their hectic lifestyle and busy schedule. In contrast, once they turn seniors, they try to concentrate on their family and friends.
In conclusion, I strongly concur with the statement that people should change their habits and mindset with age as it helps them tokeep up with the modern lifestyle. This change not only helping them to save their time and effort but also helps in maintaining good health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear, consistent position and providing relevant reasons and examples. The introduction clearly states the writer's agreement that people change their habits and opinions over time. Ideas are presented logically, discussing both technological habits and shifting perspectives. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed; for instance, the discussion on how young adults take decisions emotionally compared to seniors could have been extended with a more detailed personal or real-world example. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all main points with deeper elaboration and sustained extension rather than moving quickly between disparate examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The text demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from habits in the second paragraph to opinions in the third. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct central topics, and basic cohesive devices such as 'while', 'therefore', 'moreover', and 'in contrast' are employed to guide the reader. However, referencing and cohesion occasionally feel somewhat mechanical, such as the repetitive use of transitional markers ('moreover', 'furthermore'). Additionally, referencing pronouns like 'their' at times creates slight ambiguity regarding whether the reference is to young adults or seniors. To achieve a higher standard, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother, more natural transitions between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate ideas about aging, technology, and shifting priorities clearly. The response attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'persistently evolving', 'prioritise', and 'broaden their perspective'. However, there are minor inaccuracies in word choice, word form, and collocation, such as writing 'in young age' instead of 'at a young age' and 'access the situation' instead of 'assess the situation', along with minor spelling lapses like 'vaccumm'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a typical profile where lexical control is sufficient yet occasionally imprecise. Incorporating more sophisticated and natural phrasing would enhance the lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as conditional clauses and subordinate clauses effectively (e.g., 'While some people remain rigid, some adapt to the latest trends'). There are some grammatical errors and awkward phrasing present, such as 'adults restricts their thinking' (subject-verb agreement), 'once they turn seniors' (inappropriate phrasing), and 'This change not only helping them' (incorrect verb form in a correlative structure). Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move towards a higher standard, the writer must exercise greater accuracy with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and complex syntactic structures to ensure a higher proportion of error-free sentences.
