Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often seen that habits and opinions of people change as they get older. I firmly agree with this notion. This essay will discuss the reasons behind this scenario.

One of the main reasons is increased understanding level of living a life. The majority of community is more lean towards education and its importance in practical lifestyle. As their understanding level and perspective changes, they generally change their reading habits from less to more and they see the world with complete different perspective which means their opinion also changes over time. Another point worth considering is changing goals. Let's understand this with an example, if a female want to have an extraordinary physique then she must change her eating habits from processed food to homemade heathy diet. Additionally, her opinion of impossible weight loss can be changed significantly to see another women who successfully losses her weight from 180 kilogram to just 80 kilogram by exercising regularly and eating balanced diet. Thus, as age increases, many people try to adopt new habits to make impact on thier lifestyle.

Moreover, as people gain experience, it also leads to change their previous opinions. In other words, a teenage can run a business efficiently at start but can not take major decisions of running business smoothly because of less experience in the field, whereas, strategic decisions can be taken by him wisely as he acquire years of experience over the period.

Taking everything into consideration, due to these specified reasons, I completely agree that people tend to change both their habits as well as opinions as they get older.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task directly, presenting a clear position agreeing that people change both habits and opinions as they age. The ideas presented are generally relevant, such as increased understanding through education and changing personal goals, which meets the standard for the lower band requirement. However, some ideas are under-developed or lack full extension. For instance, the example about changing eating habits and weight loss is introduced but not fully explained in relation to the broader philosophical shift of opinions over time. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to fully develop every main idea with deeper elaboration and more sustained support throughout the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as changing goals and gaining experience. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Moreover' and 'Taking everything into consideration', though referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical. For example, phrases like 'Let's understand this with an example' introduce illustrations in a somewhat conversational manner rather than an academic one. To progress to the next level, the writer should ensure that cohesive relationships between sentences are smoother, more varied, and entirely natural without relying on repetitive transitional formulas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'extraordinary physique', 'strategic decisions', and 'efficiently'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'increased understanding level of living a life', 'majority of community is more lean towards', and 'heathy diet'. There are also minor spelling and word form errors, like 'thier' and 'losses' instead of 'loses'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect the characteristics of this band. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and demonstrate more precise control over word choice, collocation, and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and comparative clauses. There are several grammar errors present throughout the text, including article omissions ('a female want', 'to see another women'), pluralisation issues ('from 180 kilogram to just 80 kilogram'), and awkward prepositions or verb patterns ('leads to change their previous opinions'). These errors occur regularly alongside error-free sentences, but they rarely impede overall communication. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to increase the proportion of error-free sentences and demonstrate better control over complex grammatical structures, subject-verb agreement, and articles.
