Student answer (Band 5.5)

Good habits and positive opinions help us live the life smoothly. Our habits decide wether we will succed in our life or not. Some people believe that our habits and opinions change while we get older. I totally agree with the statement that people changes while they grew older.

To begin with, the very first reason for changes in habits and opinions is human hormonal changes. Usually in early age human just focus on learning and trying new things, which makes them adventours. However, when they go into teenage they start thinking about making life better and puberity hits, so it changes overall mindset of human to achieve something in life. Eventually, after stepping into adulthood our opinions and habits change totally.

Another reason, humans learn about life while experiencing different things in the life. Habits are adopted by humans as where they live and what their family taught them. Our families tell us about how we can handle things in our life until we get our proper understanding of making a decision towards anything. So we do things in a way our family taught us, but later in life when we find our likes and dislikes we change our life habits to reach our goal or what makes us happy.

To conclude, I believe that our habit and opinions changes as we grow in our life. Basically, in our life our opinions help us find the better way ahead in our life. Humans try to learn all the best things they can learn to achieve best results.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of agreement regarding how habits and opinions change with age. However, some ideas are under-developed or remain quite general. For instance, while you mention human hormonal changes and puberty as reasons for shifting mindsets, this point is not fully extended or supported with clear, specific examples. Similarly, the discussion on family influence and personal experiences touches on relevant concepts, but the explanation lacks depth. To reach a higher level, you should expand your arguments further by providing concrete examples from your own knowledge or experience to fully flesh out how specific habits or opinions evolve over time.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. You make use of basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Another reason', and 'To conclude' to structure your response into logical paragraphs. However, the cohesion can feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'human just focus on learning and trying new things, which makes them adventours.' Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but ensuring a smoother flow of ideas between sentences and using a wider variety of transitional phrases without overusing standard formulas would help elevate the organizational quality of your writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your main ideas about habits and opinions. You attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'adventours', 'puberity', and 'adulthood', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including 'succed', 'wether', 'adventours', and 'puberity'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they highlight a lack of precision. To improve this area, you need to work on accurate spelling and word choice, ensuring that you use appropriate collocations and word forms when attempting more advanced or less common lexical items.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly with articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions. Examples include 'help us live the life smoothly', 'human just focus', 'when they go into teenage', and 'experiences different things in the life'. Attempts at complex sentences are sometimes faulty, leading to awkward phrasings like 'habits are adopted by humans as where they live'. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to reduce grammatical errors by paying closer attention to article usage, pluralisation, and prepositional patterns within your sentences.
