Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task partially, as the length requirement is not met, falling slightly short of the 250-word minimum at 244 words. The writer takes a clear position by agreeing with the statement, but the ideas presented are limited and under-developed. For example, the assertion that older people have qualities similar to a child is repeated multiple times without sufficient elaboration or concrete, well-supported examples from personal experience. To reach a higher band, the writer would need to fully develop their main ideas with more detailed explanations and ensure the word count requirement is satisfied.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is some basic organization with paragraphing used to separate distinct points, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are frequently repetitive and sometimes inaccurate, such as starting multiple sentences with 'When getting aged' or relying heavily on repetitive transitions like 'Also' and 'Moreover'. Referencing can also be unclear, making the flow somewhat mechanical. To improve, the writer needs to employ a wider and more accurate range of cohesive devices and ensure that ideas flow logically from one sentence to the next without redundant phrasing.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range is limited and minimally adequate for the task, containing noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Instances of awkward phrasing and errors include 'oftenly', 'becuase', 'interest keep of changing', and 'detorated'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with inaccuracy rather than precision. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, use correct word forms, and eliminate spelling mistakes while employing more precise vocabulary related to personal growth and psychological changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, while attempts at complex or participial phrases—such as 'while getting older' and 'as getting aged'—are frequently faulty. Frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and articles are present throughout the text, including 'the people change the opinions', 'their way of addressing things changed', and 'their is no difference'. These grammatical inaccuracies can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentence structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy.
