Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt regarding changing habits and opinions over time, but the task is only partially covered. While the student takes a general stance that habits do change due to environmental factors and aging, the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion focuses heavily on personal health habits like smoking and drinking, but the aspect of changing 'opinions' mentioned in the prompt is largely neglected. The development relies on a brief personal anecdote rather than fully expanded arguments supported by broader examples. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to explore both habits and opinions more thoroughly, ensuring every part of the prompt is addressed with extended and well-supported ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some organization with a recognizable introduction, body, and conclusion, but there is a lack of clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, though the transitions between ideas can be abrupt, such as moving from general childhood habits directly into workplace environments and personal smoking history without smooth linking. Cohesive devices are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive, and referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'All this is resulting in your bad healths'. While the text is generally followable, the mechanical use of cohesive ties and the absence of a fluid logical flow keep the organization at this level. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of accurate cohesive markers and ensure each paragraph transitions logically into the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'immune system' and 'immediate effect', but these are accompanied by noticeable word choice and spelling errors that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as 'indiviadual', 'envoirnement', 'habt', 'tabacco', and 'hospatilised'. There are also frequent issues with word form and collocation, such as 'habituals with the flow' and 'give stop on smoking'. These inaccuracies prevent the vocabulary from scoring higher. To progress, the student must expand their range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to word formation and spelling, and practice natural collocations appropriate for academic or general writing tasks.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including missing articles ('During childhood', 'in 20's'), subject-verb agreement issues ('body immune system is not supporting as much as we were'), and awkward prepositional usage ('get rids of this habits'). Punctuation errors are also present, such as missing terminal punctuation and incorrect capitalization ('wen', 'i'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty and strain for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to increase the variety of error-free complex sentence structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy.
