Student answer (Band 5.5)

With aging everyone get new hobbies and thoughts and now it's getting very common specially when they get in into mid-age.

I believe when we get experience in life we adapt new hobbies and different opinions about almost evrything, and that's a good thing as we can use our pervious years to apply new ideas into life. With everyday passing we learn something new and that can assist us to improve our lifestyle and ideas about others as well. So i firmly agree with change in habits and opioions as we get older.

When i was in highschool i was a not a good student and my parents were in stress for my future but i was good in sports which they don't found off as they have a believe sports can't help us shaping a wealthy lifestyle so, evenually i have to quit cricket and have to get a computer degree however three years back one my of family friend's son selected into national team and his life got a new direction everyone's opinion has been changed. It's my own example which can be seconded by the statistics as per statistics of Canada, i read in a article, 65% of people change they livingstyle and opinion about other every three years.

In the end i would say, every decade we see people adpating to new things as these days baby boomers are using AI and roboots on the other hand, before COVID everyone was afraid of shaking hands which proves habits and opinions are changing very offen and in coming years the change will be more rapid.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by expressing a clear position on whether people change their habits and opinions as they get older, earning a solid mid-level score. The main thesis is supported with relevant ideas, such as the general progression of life experience and generational shifts like baby boomers using technology. However, some ideas show features of both the lower and higher bands. While the personal example about high school sports and cricket is relevant, it is somewhat under-developed and veers into a narrative tangent rather than fully extending the argument. The conclusion introduces interesting contemporary observations about COVID-19 and AI, but these points are stated rather than explored in depth. To reach the next level, the writer needs to ensure all supporting examples are fully explained and directly tied back to the central thesis rather than left as isolated points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and a concluding summary. The progression of ideas is generally understandable, moving from general life experience to a personal anecdote, and finally to broad societal changes. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition between sentences within paragraphs can be abrupt, such as jumping from the discussion of high school sports directly into Canadian statistics ("...as per statistics of Canada, i read in a article..."). Paragraphing is attempted, but the main body is grouped into one very dense paragraph that combines the personal anecdote with statistical claims, making the logical flow harder to follow. Improving paragraph breaks and utilizing a wider variety of smooth transitional phrases would enhance the overall structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items, but it contains noticeable inaccuracies that prevent a higher score. There are frequent spelling errors and mechanical slips, such as "evrything", "pervious", "opioions", "evenually", "adpating", "roboots", and "offen". Word choices also show occasional awkwardness or unnatural collocation, as seen in phrases like "wealthy lifestyle" instead of prosperous lifestyle or "get a computer degree" instead of pursue a degree in computer science. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the general message without severely impeding communication, the density of spelling mistakes and imprecise word choices keeps this criterion at the current level. To improve, the writer should focus on expanding their precise academic vocabulary and proofreading carefully for spelling accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, reflecting an adequate control of basic grammar. The writer attempts some complex structures, such as conditional or concessive clauses, but these are often accompanied by errors in punctuation and clause construction. There are noticeable grammatical issues, including run-on sentences with missing punctuation (e.g., "...which they don't found off as they have a believe sports can't help..."), incorrect verb forms, and minor article omissions. Despite these errors in grammar and punctuation, they rarely impede overall communication. To move up to the next band, the writer needs to increase the frequency of error-free sentences, improve control over complex clause structures, and pay closer attention to punctuation boundaries such as avoiding comma splices and run-on sentences.
