Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is usually believed that as people grow older their habits and way of thinking changes significantly. In this essay i will explain why i agree with this point of view.

Age plays a significant role in changing way of peoples' living. As people grow older they become more thoughtful and responsible. For instance, at young age children waste most of their time in playing games, socializing, staying up late night and eating fast food . This is because they have fewer to no responsibilities but as they get older they start woking towards their future goals and profession. Instead of wasting their time in extra activities, they prefer to groom theirselves and work hard. onsequently, they may develop healthier routines, such as exercising regularly, sleeping earlier and following a balanced diet. These changes are usually a natural response to their changing circumstances.

People way of thinking also changes with age. They start thinking maturely and their opinions also become logical. For example, in young age their decision is mostly dependent on their parents, teachers or any elder person and in the teenages they become more sensitive and take abrubt decision without thinking about consequences. However with age and life experiences they become more careful with their decisions and their opinions. Thus, personal experience can gradually reshape an individual's perspective.

In conclusion,i agree that changing habits and opinions is a part of growing older. While changes in lifestyle are caused by increasing responsibilities, opinions tend to develop through new experience and deeper understanding of world. therefore these changesshould be viewed as a normal aspect of personal growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that both habits and opinions change with age. The ideas presented are relevant, but some aspects are more fully developed than others. For instance, the paragraph on changing habits is supported with clear examples like children playing games versus adults working toward professional goals, whereas the exploration of opinions is slightly more generalized and could be pushed further. The response clearly shows the characteristics of the awarded band by successfully fulfilling the core requirements of the prompt with a consistent stance, while still leaving some of the supporting ideas somewhat concise rather than fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Information and ideas are logically sequenced, allowing the reader to follow the progression of thought from lifestyle shifts to psychological maturity. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly faulty, with occasional issues in referencing and transitions between sentences, such as missing capitalisation at the beginning of sentences like 'onsequently' and 'therefore'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas about habits and opinions, capturing the balance of a solid organisational structure that occasionally falters in its cohesive links.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'responsibilities', 'perspective', and 'circumstances'. However, there are instances of lexical inaccuracy and awkward word choices, such as 'extra activities' instead of 'leisure activities', 'groom theirselves' instead of 'groom themselves', and spelling slips like 'abrubt' and 'changesshould'. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the meaning to remain clear throughout. The lexical resource demonstrates a sufficient grasp of everyday and semi-formal language while showing the typical limitations seen at this level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating the ability to link clauses using subordinating and coordinating conjunctions. There are some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('at young age', 'in young age'), lowercase letters at the start of sentences, and minor prepositional inconsistencies. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the majority of simple structures are controlled effectively. The mix of structures and manageable error frequency firmly place the grammatical performance within this band range.
