Student answer (Band 6.5)

Individuals normally transform their practices and their thoughts along the journey of life. I am inclined to believe that it happens with almost all of us and there are various reasons for this shift.

Human beings have an every evolving personality. We are almost always under the influence of our environment, our surrounding and the people around us. Life events we encounter inevitably leave their mark on our perceptions and and our outlook to life. On one end, a never ending sequence of incidents - no matter how small or big - an average man is subjected to is consistently shaping his views, one the other hand, man's own brain is such a thought machine (if we may call it one) that is continually processing the aftermaths of these occurrences, that alteration in one's opinions is bound to happen. I, like everyone else I am sure, could relate to this never modification of beliefs as I could think of countless matters where my viewpoint has kept on changing during the passage of my life, and undoubtedly it will remain like this for the rest of my life.

Not only perspectives, humans do change their habits too; either intentionally or undeliberatly. Unhealthy habits nor serving us well in life are meant to go away from our lives, and sometimes even without realizing we are changing our tiny everyday practices that in the long run it entirely transforms our whole lifestyle. Being living in a foreign country for decades now, I could feel this transformation in myself that my dietary preferences , my health consciousness have gradually and slowly become different from what is used to be in my home country.

To sum it up, I would say that I endorse the notion of change in people's thoughts, suggestions, opinions and their practices as they move from childhood to adolescence, and from adulthood to elderly age.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that people’s habits and opinions change as they age, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You address both parts of the prompt, explaining how life experiences influence opinions and how living abroad has affected your diet and health awareness. These examples make the response relevant and give it a personal dimension. To strengthen the development further, explain more specifically how one experience changed a particular opinion, and clarify the process behind the habit changes. The claim that unhealthy habits are “meant to go away” is broad and not fully supported. Overall, the response addresses the task and supports its position, though some points are generalised or less fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, separate body paragraphs discuss opinions and habits, and a concluding paragraph restates your view. The progression from influences on beliefs to changes in daily routines is logical, and phrases such as “Not only perspectives” help signal the shift between topics. However, some long sentences contain several ideas and make the relationships harder to follow, particularly the sentence beginning “On one end.” The contrast marker “on the other hand” is not used in a fully balanced contrast, and the conclusion’s list of life stages adds little to the preceding explanation. Use shorter units for complex reasoning and make links between examples and claims more explicit to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss personal development, including “perceptions,” “outlook,” “dietary preferences,” and “health consciousness.” There are also attempts at less common or expressive phrasing, such as “a thought machine” and “leave their mark,” which show willingness to vary your language. Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “every evolving personality,” “never modification of beliefs,” and “aftermaths of these occurrences” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling and word-form slips such as “undeliberatly” also reduce precision. Aim for familiar, accurate collocations before choosing more elaborate expressions; this will make your ideas clearer while preserving variety.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including relative clauses and conditional phrasing, and the main message remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors occur in longer sentences and in basic patterns. For example, “Being living in a foreign country” has an incorrect verb construction, while “my dietary preferences, my health consciousness have” creates a subject–verb agreement problem. The sentence beginning “Unhealthy habits” also has a faulty structure, and “what is used to be” does not form the intended past comparison. Punctuation and repeated conjunctions, as in “perceptions and and our outlook,” need careful editing. Build complex sentences around clear subjects and verbs, then check agreement, tense, and clause structure.
