Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued that with increasing age, people change their behaviour and perceptions. I strongly agree with this viewpoint because, with a changing world, and increased dependency, older people adjust themselves.
One of the main reasons older people easily changing their habits and opinions is that people tend to learn with time. Change is the only thing which is constant, and the world is changing day by day. For example, new generations are more into technology and advancements, while older generations used to perform their work on their own. Therefore, with the passing time, people try to adapt themselves to cope with the changing environment.
I believe another reason is that as they grow older, they become more dependent on others. With increasing age, their body become weaker, and they may suffer from various health issues. Due to that, they start living with their children and adapt their routine, which requires changing their ideology and habits. For instance, many elderly people live in care homes, where they may be expected to follow certain rules and regulations, which may hinder their personal preferences.
In conclusion, nowadays, it is increasingly common for elderly people to change their perceptions and habits because of the constantly changing society, and they start relying more on their children and loved ones. I believe this is a positive development to survive fully in this modern world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that people change their habits and opinions as they age. You give two relevant reasons—adapting to a changing world and becoming more dependent—and support them with examples involving technology, living with children, and care homes. However, the ideas are not equally developed: the first paragraph mainly contrasts generations without showing clearly how older people’s opinions change, while the second focuses more on routines and dependence than on opinions. The conclusion also introduces the claim that this is a positive development without explaining why. The response is 20 words below the required minimum. Develop each reason with a more specific explanation and example, and connect the conclusion directly to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from social change to age-related dependence is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One of the main reasons,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. To strengthen cohesion further, make the links between examples and the central claim more explicit. For instance, explain how adapting to technology changes not only behaviour but also opinions. Some transitions are formulaic, and the conclusion repeats the main points rather than drawing them together or explaining the final judgement. More varied linking and clearer references between claims and examples would make the progression feel more developed.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss ageing and social change, including “perceptions,” “advancements,” “adapt,” “dependent,” and “personal preferences.” These choices make the main ideas clear, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several word choices or collocations are imprecise, such as “increased dependency” and “survive fully,” and “changing environment” is repeated in a fairly general way. “Ideology” is also too strong or specific for the everyday changes described; “outlook” or “attitudes” would fit better. Aim for more precise language when distinguishing habits from opinions, and check that phrases sound natural in context. These improvements would add flexibility without making the writing unnecessarily complex.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “where.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the errors do not prevent understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. In “One of the main reasons older people easily changing,” the verb form is incomplete; use “older people change” or “older people are changing.” In “their body become weaker,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “body” should be plural or preceded by “bodies.” The opening sentence also has an awkward comma after “world,” which interrupts the structure. Review verb forms and subject–verb agreement, then proofread punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
