Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is considered that getting older, people tend to change their daily habits and opinions. I agree as much as disagree with this statement. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I have discussed reasons behind this trend with suitable justifications.

Taking into account the first reason, with growing age, their maturity generally increases. Due to that repeatation of past mistakes would be dicreased becoming the better version of themselves. After getting considerable experiences in life, such as maintaining family relations, career or job professions, parents responsibilities or financial management, they do not want to pass on any wrong discision or mistakes which cannot be forgotten, to their childrens. Thus, they always try to change their habits and perspactive. For example, in one's younger period, a person carried a wrong habbit of smoking which led severe health problem in his adulthood, end up changing his habit for betterment of own self and famikly members.

On the contrary, self made successful people do not tend to change their discisions or point of views as they cannot trust anyone's instincts or intuations but themselves. Despite getting older, they become more stuborn, being an enemy of own by not upgrading themselves, satisfying inner pride. For example, many successful businessmen cannot change their negative habits as they think it will affect their fame and also they cannot trust their employees.

To conclude, some people learn to change themselves for betterment of themselves and their loved ones as others stick to their rudimentary or traditional style of living to satisfy their ego.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is that you partly agree: the introduction says, “I agree as much as disagree,” and the conclusion recognises that some people change while others remain fixed. Both sides are supported with relevant examples, including changing a smoking habit after health problems and businessmen resisting change. This addresses the question, but the extent of your agreement remains somewhat unclear, and the second argument is less fully explained: the link between success, distrust of others, and keeping habits or opinions is asserted rather than demonstrated. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a more specific example, and state your overall view more directly so the response addresses the task consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, one paragraph explaining why people may change, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “On the contrary” and “To conclude” help readers follow the shift in argument, and the examples are placed alongside the relevant points. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some stronger control through logical paragraphing. However, some links feel mechanical, particularly “Taking into account the first reason,” and references such as “Due to that” do not connect ideas smoothly. The conclusion also repeats the contrast without clearly resolving your position. Use simpler, more natural transitions and make the relationship between each claim and its explanation explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “maturity,” “financial management,” “rudimentary,” and “inner pride.” These choices show an effort to express abstract ideas, but inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “repeatation,” “dicreased,” “discisions,” and “perspactive”; phrases such as “parents responsibilities” and “enemy of own” are also not expressed naturally. Some wording is vague, as in “successful people,” where a more precise description would strengthen the argument. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships, then choose familiar, precise expressions when an ambitious phrase is uncertain.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “After getting considerable experiences in life…” and a contrastive structure beginning “Despite getting older.” The main ideas are generally understandable, but some sentence patterns are incomplete or awkwardly constructed. For example, “Due to that repeatation of past mistakes would be dicreased becoming…” lacks a clear grammatical connection, while “end up changing his habit” does not fit smoothly with the past-tense example. There are also issues with articles, plurals, and agreement, as in “parents responsibilities” and “their maturity generally increases.” Practise building complete sentences around one clear main clause, and check tense consistency and noun forms when editing.
