Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, there is an ongoing debate over it is very common for people to change their habits and opininion with the progressing years of their age. I tottaly disagree with this statement because there any many inate habits and some opinions that cannot be changed with their age.

one of the main reason why I believe some habits and oipnions never change with progressing life. This is because many people develop some habit and opinion that will stay with them throughout there lifespan. For example, many people have habit of waking up early in the morning and their opinions such as always follow true path. As a result, even though there are a lot of reasons to distract people from their habits and opinions, they never forget their habits and opinion they developed at initial stage of their life.

Another reason behind partially supporting the statement is that if people develop any habit and opinion by the guidance from their family 's elder member. the fact behind this statement is that many poeple believe that whatever their eldre taght them is always right as they respect their elderly. For instance, many younge people develop habit healthy lifestyle through their elder family members such as their parents or grandparents. As a result, the habit people develop with their loved ones guidance or suggestion, they often refuse to change They may adapt that habits or opinions that they cannot change even with their willingness to change it.

In conclusion, althogh it is very common for people to change their opinions andd habits with age, I believe there are many reasons that stops people following this approah such as adptation to the habits and opinion at early stage of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is stated clearly in the introduction (“I totally disagree”), and the response gives reasons and examples, including habits learned early and habits influenced by older family members. However, the discussion only partially answers the question: the second body paragraph begins by “partially supporting the statement,” which conflicts with your stated disagreement, and it does not clearly explain how this supports your overall view. The examples are relevant but general, and the claim that people “never forget” habits or opinions is not sufficiently explained. To strengthen the response, maintain one consistent position and develop each reason with a specific explanation of why age does or does not lead people to change.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “For example,” “Another reason” and “In conclusion” help identify the stages of the argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear. The second body paragraph opens with “partially supporting the statement,” creating a confusing shift from the introduction’s complete disagreement. Some links are also mechanical or do not show the relationship between ideas clearly, particularly the repeated “As a result” sentences. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s main point explicit, linking examples directly to that point, and using references such as “these early influences” instead of repeatedly repeating “habits and opinions.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “lifespan,” “guidance,” “elderly” and “adapt,” and the reader can generally identify your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less clear, such as “opinionion,” “inate,” “poeple” and “adptation.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, including “with the progressing years of their age” and “follow true path.” Repetition of “habits and opinions” further limits flexibility. Build a more accurate range of expressions for discussing change and influence, and check spelling and collocations carefully so that your ideas are expressed naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses beginning “because,” “even though” and “if,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in sentence structure and agreement: “one of the main reason” lacks plural agreement and is presented as a sentence fragment, while “there any many” disrupts the opening claim. Other examples include “many people have habit” and “the habit people develop … they often refuse to change,” where articles and sentence construction need attention. Punctuation also causes problems, as in “change They may adapt,” where a sentence boundary is missing. Practise building complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a clear grammatical structure.
