Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often claimed that individuals change their views over the time. Although some people unchange their minds when they get older, I firmly believe that most people develop their mentality during the time because they learn from others cultures and gain more experience.

One major reason for position is that humans gain habits from surrounded environment. People who work or study can learn many things from their colleagues such as the way of thinking. For example, there are many students study abroad in each country, leading to learn habits of others countries. This means that when people engaged with others they will be affected by their habits. Consequently, this can have a significant impact on the individuals views.

Another important reason for my postion is that the responsibilities of people increased over the time, particularly having a family may change the way of behaving and taking decisions. By having children, individuals become more careful and maybe even ovethinking. For instance, a friend of mine used to stay late outside and waste money on video games, but after he get married, he becomes more eager to save money and utilize his time. In other words, if people got more responsibilities, they would become more careful and conscious about everything. Admittedly, some people argue that responsibilities can not change the way of thinking; however, the researchers proved it is hugely impact on our personality. As a result, this can have a major impact on our opinions.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that most people habits and opinions get changed over the time because people views get affected by their environment. Therefore, individuals should be shared their experiences and knowledge to enhance their way of thinking and behaving.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that people change as they age, and the conclusion restates this view. You address both habits and opinions, supporting your argument with environmental influence and increased family responsibilities. The example of your friend becoming more careful with money gives the second point a concrete illustration. To strengthen the response further, develop the link between changing habits and changing opinions more explicitly; the first body paragraph focuses mainly on habits, while the effect on views is asserted rather than demonstrated. The claim that researchers have proved a major impact is also broad and unsupported. More precise explanation or a specific example would make the support more convincing and reduce generalisation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposts such as “One major reason,” “Another important reason,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This shows a sound foundation, though some linking is mechanical and a few references are unclear. For example, “this” in “this can have a significant impact” could refer to interaction with others or to their habits. The final sentence introduces advice about sharing experiences, which is not fully connected to the argument. Use more precise referencing and make each paragraph’s concluding sentence directly reinforce its main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “responsibilities,” “environment,” “colleagues,” and “personality,” and phrases such as “significant impact” help express your ideas. However, the range and control are uneven, with noticeable word-choice, word-form, spelling, and collocation problems. Examples include “unchange their minds,” “learn from others cultures,” “my postion,” and “individuals views.” Some expressions, such as “develop their mentality” and “waste money on video games,” are understandable but not always the most natural or precise for this argument. Build a bank of accurate collocations and check spelling and possessive forms; this will make your meaning clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concession beginning “Although some people…” and conditional structures such as “if people got more responsibilities, they would become more careful.” This gives the response some structural variety. However, errors occur across verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction, and they sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “there are many students study abroad” needs a relative clause or a gerund construction, while “after he get married, he becomes” shifts tense inconsistently. “The researchers proved it is hugely impact” also has a faulty verb pattern. Practise forming clauses accurately and keep tense choices consistent, especially when describing general truths and past examples.
