Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been observed that people at their old-age change their viewpoints and behavioural patterns alot.I largely agree with this notion as it is their age of relaxation and fun as well at this point they have enough experience of life and of different situations.

To commence with, after the retirement the old people had to make changes in their routines to prevent themselves from the feeling of isolation and loneliness. Therefore, it is crucial for them to join social clubs and local charity communities to socialise and to stay connected with people. This allows them to engage in a productive activities even after their retirement. This change is important for their overall health even if they hadn't done these activities in their younger times. Moreover,it not only prevents them from various mental diseases but also from the physical problems as it helps them to stay active and physically fit.

In addition, their thinking develops with the time as in younger age people like different things for pleasure and fun while in old age people find peace in different things.Hence, it is a biological nature of human-beings to be attracted to different things at different times.Furthermore,it is requirement of the time to change therefore people cannot live with the same habits and opinions for their whole life. Also, the life circumstances and difficult phases of life force people to adopt change.

In conclusion,I personally believe that it is true that people change their personal habits and customs according to their age and the change is most likely to observed in the old-age of the people because at this age they love peace, stability and security.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you largely agree that people change their habits and opinions as they age, and the conclusion restates this view. The discussion is relevant and addresses both habits, through retirement routines and social activities, and opinions, through changing preferences and life experience. The retirement example is the more developed point, with links to social connection and health. By contrast, the claim that people find peace in different things is general and would benefit from a specific example showing how an opinion or preference changes. The response therefore covers the task, but some ideas are less fully explained. To strengthen it, develop each main reason with a concrete illustration and clarify how it demonstrates change with age.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct themes, and a conclusion. The sequence from retirement-related habits to changing preferences and life circumstances is easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “To commence with,” “In addition,” and “In conclusion” to signal stages in the argument. However, some connections feel mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” “Hence,” and “Also.” The relationship between ideas in the second body paragraph could be made clearer: the points about biological nature, changing needs, and difficult life phases are listed rather than developed as a connected explanation. Use fewer formulaic transitions and make links between claims explicit through explanation or examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “viewpoints,” “behavioural patterns,” “isolation,” “socialise,” and “stability and security.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an effort to vary your language. However, several phrases are imprecise or unnatural, such as “their age of relaxation and fun,” “after the retirement,” and “a productive activities.” “Biological nature” is also not a natural way to express the idea in this context. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for more natural collocations and check word forms and spelling, including “a lot,” which should be written as two words.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including a reason clause in “as it is their age…” and a contrast with “while” in the discussion of changing preferences. Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “after the retirement the old people had to make changes” has an unnecessary article and an inconsistent past-tense form; “engage in a productive activities” has an article–plural mismatch; and “the change is most likely to observed” is missing “be.” There are also punctuation and spacing problems, such as sentences running together after full stops. To improve control, check articles, verb forms, agreement, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to practise complex sentences.
