Student answer (Band 5.0)

Habits are hardly changed especially at older age. It is believed by some people that it is very common for people to switch both their habits and their mindset as they improve in age. I strongly disagree with people changing their habits and opinion as their get older.

To begin with, individuals hardly improve with their character and opninion as they age bacause it is an inherent action or learnt from younger age again. It is learned over time from families or friends. However, it is a continuous action. Globally, it is believed that children are encouraged to behave well better or worse by their parents actions at all times.

Secondly, many people are not easily influenced into changing their ways of living because most character are influenced by culture or religion. This results to individuals acting according to tradition and doctries, which leads to some masses following rules and regulations. For example, culture and religion helps to shape community memebers reasoning, guided by dos and don'ts. This is done over time and the people gets to abide by it.

However, people change their habits and opinions as their get older because they are more experienced as the days goes by. Maturity comes with acquiring some knowledge and unlearning some habits not proud of.

In conclusion, habits and opinion are not easily droped because of it is acquired over time and it is also influenced by traditions. I strongly believe that character and mindset are difficult to drop. However, it can be channged by oneself over some period of time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall disagreement in the opening and conclusion, and your points about family influence, culture and religion are relevant to why habits and opinions may persist. However, the response only partly addresses the question because it does not consistently explain whether change is common as people age. The paragraph beginning “However, people change their habits and opinions” introduces the opposing view, but it is brief and is not reconciled with your stated position. Several claims, such as people being shaped by tradition, are asserted rather than supported with a specific example or explanation. Develop two main reasons with clearer links to ageing, and explain why they outweigh the possibility that experience brings change.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Secondly” and “In conclusion” make the basic structure visible. However, progression is limited: the first two body paragraphs repeat the idea that upbringing and culture shape behaviour, while the paragraph starting “However” shifts to the opposite position without explaining how it fits your argument. Some links are unclear, including “However, it is a continuous action,” where the relationship to the preceding point is difficult to follow. Referencing is also imprecise in phrases such as “This is done over time.” Organise each paragraph around one distinct reason, use transitions to show contrast or consequence accurately, and make references explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “mindset,” “inherent,” “tradition,” “maturity” and “unlearning,” which helps communicate ideas about personal development. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the intended meaning less clear. Examples include “improve in age,” “results to individuals,” and “character and opinion.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, such as “opninion,” “doctries,” “memebers,” “droped” and “channged.” Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. Reusing a few accurate terms is more effective than choosing ambitious words that do not fit the sentence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement and verb forms can make the reader pause. For example, “as their get older” appears more than once, “most character are influenced” has a number-agreement problem, and “the people gets to abide by it” shifts incorrectly between plural and singular. The sentence “habits and opinion are not easily droped because of it is acquired” also has a faulty clause structure. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and subordinate clauses, then proofread each sentence for agreement and complete grammatical connections.
