Student answer (Band 5.5)

Yes, it is really very common and important for some people to change their habits and opinions as they get older. When we are growing older we should become mature by increasing age.

PARAGRAPH 1,

According to my point of view some people had so many irritating habit like talking too much on silly topics and inturpting elders or people around them while talking, they should change those habits as they get older because maturity is the thing which gives you respect. They must understand that talking less is the best habit.

PARAGRAPH 2,

Some elderly people are actually very irritating because most of the time they enter in your bedroom without even asking or knocking, they do not even want to accept or think that this is not a good habit because bedroom is a personal space nobody should enter in anyones room without knocking, elders should also respect someones privacy.

My father in law and my mother in law mostly enters in my room without my permission and i really hate that habit even if i am sleeping or having a call with my parents or my husband, i cant even say to them that plz knock the door before entering my room.

PARAGRAPH 3,

Some people thinks that only their opinions are right because they are older then us. They dont even try to understand that they should have to listen other people thoughts also or nowadays youngsters have different opinions on different things. Like if they believe in old superstitions they thinks that we should also believe in that silly superstitions.

CONCLUSION,

Yes, i strongly agree that people should change their opiniond and habits as they get older.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that people should change habits and opinions as they grow older. You give relevant examples, including interrupting others, entering someone’s bedroom without knocking, and assuming that older people’s views are always right. These address both habits and opinions, and the personal example involving your in-laws makes one point concrete. However, the discussion is uneven: the privacy example is developed in detail, while the point about superstitions and changing opinions is only briefly explained. Some claims, such as “talking less is the best habit,” are asserted rather than supported. To strengthen the response, explain why age should lead to reconsideration, and develop each example with a clearer consequence or reflection.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to separate points and a conclusion, and the reader can generally follow the examples. However, the labels “PARAGRAPH 1,” “PARAGRAPH 2,” and “CONCLUSION” are not needed in an essay and make the organisation feel mechanical. The progression between ideas is also limited: the examples are presented one after another without much explanation of how they support the overall position. Linking phrases such as “For example” or “This illustrates that” could clarify these relationships. Some references are unclear, particularly “they” in the discussion of older people and “that habit” after several behaviours have been mentioned. Use topic sentences and clearer referencing to create a more connected argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including relevant terms such as “maturity,” “personal space,” “privacy,” and “superstitions.” The examples also show an attempt to discuss specific behaviours rather than relying entirely on general statements. However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, such as “some people,” “habit,” and “different opinions.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “inturpting,” “opiniond,” and “superstitions” used with an awkward modifier in “silly superstitions.” Some informal wording, such as “plz,” is unsuitable for an IELTS essay. Aim for more precise alternatives and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main message is usually understandable. For instance, the sentence beginning “My father in law and my mother in law” gives a personal example with several details. However, errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. Examples include “some people thinks,” “they mostly enters,” and “they should have to listen”; these should be revised to use consistent subject–verb agreement and more natural verb patterns. The opening sentence, “When we are growing older we should become mature by increasing age,” is also awkwardly constructed. Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, especially with “i” and the long sentence about entering the room. Practise accurate complex sentences and proofread each sentence for its subject and verb.
