Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is possible for individuals to change their habits and opinions as they grow older, I strongly agree with this sentiment, because it may be attributed to knowledge acquisition, experience and immediate environment.
People often having varying opinions at different stages of their life. This is because, with every stage of life, people gain knowledge and experience life-altering situations which may change their view and opinion about certain things. Also, as individuals get older, their intellectual capacity, physical ability, wants and desires vary, which often lead to a change in habits. Furthermore, people may even get bored of doing the same hobbies, as a result they search for new things that may interest them, which could alter their usual habits.
For some people, their immediate surrounding has a significant impact on their views and habits. Often times, individuals who live in rural areas may have differing opinion and habits when compared to those who were raised in the city. As people grow older, they get the opportunity to move from one city to another, which may change their views and opinions, because they learn about new ideas, culture and way of life of other people, which they may find interesting and subsequently practice. For instance, when people relocate to other countries, they are often faced with several culture shocks. After sometime, they learn to adapt with these changes, which may subquently change their previous habits and daily routine.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that people often change their habits and views as they age, which may be due to acquisition of knowledge, life-altering experience and change in environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction, where you state that you “strongly agree,” and it remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both habits and opinions, giving relevant reasons involving knowledge, life experience, changing needs, and relocation. The examples about moving between rural and urban settings and adapting after moving abroad help illustrate how surroundings can influence behaviour. The ideas are extended with explanations, rather than simply listed, which supports the response. However, some claims remain broad—for example, that people may become bored with hobbies or that rural and city residents differ—without a specific personal or concrete example. Developing one example in greater detail would make the support more convincing and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop different reasons, and the conclusion restates the position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. The second body paragraph also moves logically from the influence of surroundings to relocation and adaptation. At times, however, the links feel somewhat formulaic, and several sentences rely on repeated “which” clauses, making the progression less smooth. For example, the sentence beginning “As people grow older, they get the opportunity to move…” contains several connected ideas. Varying sentence openings and making the relationship between each example and its main point more explicit would strengthen cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary and make some effective choices, including “life-altering situations,” “intellectual capacity,” “immediate surrounding,” and “culture shocks.” These expressions help you discuss abstract influences on changing habits and opinions. There is also some repetition of central terms such as “change,” “habits,” and “opinions,” and a few collocations or forms are not natural: “learn to adapt with these changes” and “differing opinion and habits” are examples. The spelling error “subquently” also affects accuracy. This performance shows attempts at less common vocabulary, but more precise collocations and greater variety in describing change and adaptation would make the language more flexible and natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex structures, including subordinate clauses with “because,” “as,” and “which,” and most of your meaning remains clear. Some sentences are controlled well, such as “After sometime, they learn to adapt with these changes,” though this example also contains a grammatical issue. Errors include “People often having varying opinions,” which needs a finite verb, and “their intellectual capacity, physical ability, wants and desires vary, which often lead,” where the agreement and reference are unclear. In “when compared to those who were raised in the city,” the comparison is not fully parallel. These are some recurring accuracy problems rather than barriers to understanding. Check verb forms, agreement, and sentence boundaries, while retaining your range of complex clauses.
